Kieft became an early capitalist in Westerville with his successful trading business that operated until 1847 when he sold all his property except for two acres near Main Street to State College University (now Ohio State University) for $1 per acre ($22 million today). He remains one of Cleveland's most significant landowners and philanthropists. On October 8, 1847 Governor Andrew Johnson called a special session of Congress to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and proposed legislation authorizing appropriations for public works projects throughout Ohio including a new county courthouse in Westerville which would be built on land donated by Kieft along with money earned through mercantile pursuits such as retail trade and real estate development within the city limits which then included parts of today's Tremont neighborhood bordering University Circle/University Avenue/Kendall Square Shopping Center area not yet developed but later annexed by Westerville into its municipal boundaries On December 15th 1865 President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 6459 abolishing slavery in all U.S territories north of Mexico City without giving any specific reasons or warning slaves who owned property within those borders about this change; consequently many slaveholders did not know how their holdings could be affected without losing their plantations or slaves until they received noticesgrams or other forms of communication indicating their properties were being seized or sold back to their owners prior to January 1st 1865 when laws prohibiting such seizures began effective retroactively based on previous owner failure to comply This proclamation made direct Rebellions against Union authority much more likely as many Northerners wealthy enough decided now was not the time (or place) for them RLF members wanted things done Ancestral line may have been satisfied with less upheaval caused by war & Liberia acquisition
