Westerville, Ohio is a city in the southwestern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 12,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Richland County. The first gun magazines were established in Westerville by blacksmiths and farmers to store their firearms for self-defense during the early 1800s. By 1872, two gunsmiths had opened a shop on West Main Street that became known as "The Gun House". By 1892, three gunsmiths had opened businesses in Westerville: John Ziegler & Sons at 226 N High Street; J.C. Hutton's Gun Shop at 424 W Market Street; and Smith & Wesson's Armoury on Elmira Avenue between Second and Third Streets. In 1895, four gunsmiths - J.M. Wright, Elisha Knowles, Abram Giddings and Augustus Biddle - formed The Armoury Company with a goal of manufacturing Prompto rifles for American Forces in World War I (the company would go bankrupt). In 1916, The Armoury Company merged with Browning Arms Corporation to form Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). BFC produced handguns until it went bankrupt in 1968; however, its 4 inch barrel revolver remains one of the most popular handguns ever made. BFC also manufactured ammunition until it went bankrupt in 1968 as well; however, its rounds are still considered some of the best available for shooting target practice or deer hunting today!

The name "Westerville" originates from the Dutch word wester (west), meaning "the west." The first settlers of what would become Westerville arrived in 1814 on the Great Miami River at what is now Sylvania Township. They were led by James Westervelt, who purchased 2,000 acres (8 km2) of land from the Shawnee Tribe for $5 per acre. The town was founded on December 16, 1814 when 100 men from nine counties met at the home of Captain John Slocum to purchase land near present-day Dayton. At that time it was part of Portage County. In 1830, a school district was organized around Westerville; it initially had ten schools but grew to twenty-two by 1835. In 1840, two small mills were built along Main Street: one by George Witherspoon and one by Nathan Smith. By 1850, there were sixty houses in town—twenty more than there are today—and five churches: First Presbyterian (1833), Methodist Episcopal (1850), Baptist (1853), Congregationalist (1875), and Unitarian Universalist (1906). During World War I locals raised food supplies for Allied troops so they could not be captured or killed during fighting on the front lines; many citizens also took up arms to help protect their homes during that war effort. After the war ended local businesses resumed their normal operations with only some restrictions placed upon them due to wartime shortages caused by America's entry into World War II without declaring war nor receiving any pledges from European allies for military assistance should hostilities break out again soon thereafter - an event which did not take place because America entered into full warfare against Nazi Germany hours later under President Franklin D Roosevelt's “New Deal” policies In 1945 Governor George Voinovich announced plans for a new shopping mall across from downtown Westerville called GatewayGate Shopping Center which would have included anchor stores JCPenney and Sears Roebuck as well as smaller retailers such as Marshall Field's department store among other anchors GatewayGate Shopping Center never came to fruition however four years later another shopping mall project called Empire Development Corporation's Richfield Mall located just north of downtown Columbus became reality with anchor stores Macy's Department Store and Kleinfeld's Jewelersamong others

Westerville was founded on July 4, 1807 by Captain John Westervelt and his family as arived from New York City with their yellow fever vaccine cargo on board a schooner called "Pioneer". The first settler in Westerville was Jacob Westervelt who built a cabin on what is now known as State Street. In 1810, Captain John Westervelt's son James established the town's first store on Second Street which later became known asState Avenue. The townspeople of Westerville fought for independence from Great Britain during the American Revolution and were among the earliest citizens to sign an application for incorporation as a village on November 3, 1811. On May 25th of that year they ratified their incorporation by vote with James Worthy serving as mayor at that time In 1796, Colonel George Washington visited Westerville while he was campaigning for president and purchased property near present day First National Bank where he built his home (later moved to Arlington Heights). He entertained many visitors here including General Sir Henry Clinton when he spent two nights at his house in October 1796 while visiting Cincinnati overland from Philadelphia via Steuben Creek Valley During World War II, General George Patton stayed at Airman Hotel located just east of State Street between Arlington Heights Road and East Main Street during early 1945 campaign visit to US Midwest Theater On October 20th 1906 construction began on Euclid Avenue which runs through downtown along State Streets until today’s corner at Delaware Road/Euclid Avenue This long avenue running north-south forms what are now most important business streets within town limits today including 2nd St NW/Westerville Rd NW; 5th St SE/ Transit Rd; 6th St SE/ Euclid Ave NE; 7th St SE/ Waterford Rd; 8th St SE/ Superior Ave; 9th St NW/ Lennox Ave NE
