Westerville, Ohio is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, United States. The population was 546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Westerville goes back to 1811 when it was known as "Newport." The town was organized in 1821 and became a city in 1903. In 1907, Westerville annexed the villages of Arlington and Defiance. The first settlers arrived in what is now Westerville from Pennsylvania around 1794. By 1811, Newport had grown to about 900 people and several mills were being operated by local citizens including David Denny who owned the first mill on the current site of Westerville Township (now part of village of Arlington). By 1821, Newport had become an incorporated village with a government headed by a sheriff and six trustees. On December 12th that year, Samuel Greenacre bought 2 acres (0.8 km²) east of present day Delaware Avenue for $10 per acre ($2/km²) which he donated to the new town hall on Walnut Street cornering Erie Avenue (later renamed Elm Street). In 1903, following annexation by Cleveland of other villages within Lucas County such as Defiance and Arlington Heights into Cleveland proper-Westerville saw its heyday as one of commerce and industry with over 100 businesses located downtown along Walnut Street between Erie Avenue/Elm Streets and High street/Northeast cornering Euclid Avenue-one block south from then Mayor James Whelan's arbitration court where suits could be brought before judges without going to trial However during World War I munitions production shifted from Holland Park Armoury on Euclid Ave., across State Road 3 into what is now Canton due to lack of available land elsewhere in the county For much of this time there were few if any public sector jobs or housing developments aside from cottage Homes built for workers near factory sites during World War II . However after 1945 these steady changes halted with industries waning while affordable housing opportunities increased leading to increased gentrification just as happened in many other American cities – until recently .

The annexation led to a rename for Westerville as City of Fairview. The city repealed its merger with FairVIEW on November 14, 2006.
