There is no doubt that firearms have been an integral part of the American Revolution and throughout the history of Ohio. The first European settlers in what is now Ohio were Dutch and French traders, who brought firearms with them when they settled in the area in the 1630s. Firearms were also used by Native Americans during this time, as well as by early colonists to defend themselves from Indians. The first firearm manufactured in Westerville was a small rifle called the "Volunteer" made by John Stroud in 1812. In 1847, James Waddell founded Waddell & Longridge Armory on North Main Street, which became one of the most important firearms manufacturers in America. The company produced military rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers under several different brands including Colt, Winchester and Remington. During World War II, weapons manufacturer Browning began producing firearms for the United States armed forces. Browning produces handguns (including pistols such as the Beretta 92), rifles (including AR-15s and AK-47s), machineguns (such as submachineguns) and artillery guns (such as howitzers). In 1975, Browning merged with Colt Corporation to form Colts Incorporated. Browns Gun & Ammo remains a division of Colt Incorporated today.

Westerville is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio, located on the Scioto River. The population was 25,827 at the 2010 census. Westerville is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to what would become Westerville were Nathaniel Whetstone and his brother John Whetstone who founded a farm on the Scioto River in 1788. In 1811, John Whetstone married Abigail Fenton and they moved their family upriver to what became Westerville proper. James Caldwell came to Westerville from Pennsylvania in 1813 and began farming there with his brother David Caldwell also fromPennsylvania. In 1830, when Ohio became a state, both David Caldwell and James Caldwell donated land for University Park which became home to Ohio State University (then known as Wesleyan College). In 1839, Captain William Cranch bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land east of present day West Side Road from Jesse Weikart for $120 per acre ($ in 2019 terms). This area would later become known as Chardon Township. A building that still stands on this property was once used as the schoolhouse for Chardon Township until it burned down in 1905; however, an extant wing of that building still remains today as the Westerville Municipal Building! After spending a year living near Chillicothe he decided that he wanted more open country in his back yard so he started trading goods with Indians along highland routes using wagons drawn by horses or mules because transportation then was very difficult over long distances by road or canal! He named this new settlement "Chilly" after Chillicothe where he had beenPriorly residing! When Captain Cranch died suddenly in 1840 leaving four children - two girls and two boys - all daughters grew up wanting their father's land so they could start farms too! They got around to getting it when Captains widow donated another 640 acres (2 km²) just east of her husbands original property plus an adjacent house lot which she had been living in since Captains death! Unfortunately due to lack of heirs apparent one daughter took over command of all assets & properties within Chardon Township including her fathers landed estate thereby dividing families among themselves & thwarting any future aspirations by younger siblings!!! It wasn't until 1923 when Pershing Ladd homesteaded on lands adjoining Captains widow's old house that things finally fell into line!!!!! After serving during World War 1 as an officer with Company K 111st Infantry Regiment stationed at Camp Upton Army Ammunition Plant outside Cleveland Philo Dearborn founded Dearborn Carrying Company which built trucks based on an invention credited to Dearborn called "The Cuda". The company prospered but soon went bankrupt due mainly to heavy competition from Ford Motor Co.. So PhiloDearborn sold his company interest back to Dearborn Carrying Company founder PhiloDearborn who continued producing cudas under new name "Cleveland Pinto". After PhiloDearborne's death in 1947 most ownership reverted back to Dearborn Carouring Company founder PhiloDearborn's daughters though some limited production continues today under new management

Today, Westerville remains one of Northwest Ohio's most vibrant communities with its rich history and diverse cultural experiences well preserved. The community is home to over 30,000 residents who enjoy plenty of opportunities to live close to nature and enjoy its friendly people.

It grew rapidly due to its location on the Ohio River and its position as a transportation hub. In 1815, Westerville became the capital of Monroe County. The city experienced significant growth during the late 19th century, with an influx of immigrants and businesses. The city also played a role in the American Civil War, with many residents volunteering their services to fight on both sides. In 1955, Westerville was renamed Dayton after hometowns in Ohio (Daytona Beach being first) and Kentucky (NashVILLE).
