Westerville has experienced several waves of growth over the years including: suburban housing developments like Springboro Village (1974), Westwood Village (2002), East Hills (2004), Northfield Commons (2006), Southridge Estates (2007), Park Meadows (2008) and Addison Crossing(2009). However, some aspects have not changed much such as high levels of poverty or crime rates among low-income residents which continue to pose challenges for the city overall despite efforts by Mayor Steve Fulop to address them head-on The City Council has decided that there are too many vacant buildings within walking distance of city hall which creates an issue with how to allocate resources towards fixing up these properties while still providing necessary services such as police protection and fire services
