West Carrollton City, Ohio is a small town in the county of Ross in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 1,724 at the 2010 census. It lies along the eastern edge of Ross County and is part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The first settlers in what is now West Carrollton City were farmers who arrived in 1810 from Bedfordshire, England. They founded a community on a tract of land they purchased from Chief Black Hawk. The original village had only five homes and no schools; it soon became an important stop on stagecoaches traveling between Cincinnati and Dayton. By 1890, however, West Carrollton had grown to include over 100 residents and two churches – First Baptist Church (founded 1892) and Second Baptist Church (founded 1897). By 1910, its population had reached 2,000 people. In 1924–1927, when Ross County was created from parts of Hamilton County, West Carrollton became one of its five municipalities. In 1951–1953, as part of efforts to reduce racial segregation in Hamilton County then under planning control by Hamilton Municipal Authority (HMA), four black residents organized themselves as the "Negro Citizens Association" to fight plans for integrated housing units within walking distance of their white neighbors' homes. This initial effort failed but helped spur public opposition to HMA's overall segregation agenda which ultimately led to desegregation throughout Hamilton County by 1957. During much of this time period West Carrollton City continued to be majority white with few blacks living there; however some black families did move into the city during this time period as well as after desegregation occurred acrossHamiltonCountyandCincinnatiMunicipalityin 1957
