West Carrollton City, Ohio is a town in Noble County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. The first settlement in what is now West Carrollton City was founded in 1812 by farmers from nearby Xenia. In 1814, the area became part of the Northwest Territory as part of the Compromise of 1818. The city was named for General John C. West and his family who settled there in 1827. The city was formed from a merger of two other towns on November 2, 1958: West Carrollton Township and New Bedford Township. On December 1, 1975, it became a city under the definition set forth by the Ohio Constitution Revision Commission. The name "West Carrollton" reflects both its location and history while still honoring General John C. West's contribution to the community. West Carrollton City has been providing quality education since 1907 when it opened its first high school which remains open today as Wright State University-Carrollton Heights School District No 9 (Wright State Education Foundation). Today’s students include many current and future leaders in business, healthcare and government services across Noble County – including four members of Congress!

West Carrollton City was founded in 1837 and named for John Carroll, the first United States Senator from Kentucky. It became a town in 1870 and a city in 1907. The population was 484 at the 2000 census. The town was laid out on a square tract of land near the present-day intersection of State Route 9 and Federal Road. The original settlers were farmers who cultivated corn, beans, wheat, potatoes, apples and other fruit trees on their farms. In 1837, WCC residents voted to become a city under the leadership of Mayor Lewis Payson. A smallpox epidemic that year killed many people in West Carrollton City and nearby towns; however, this did not stop the citizens from voting to make themselves into a city. They did this by passing an ordinance stating that “all men over 21 years of age must have resided therein for 3 months immediately prior to election as members of any public body or officer thereof” (West Carrollton City website). This law made it easier for citizens to get elected because they no longer had to leave their homes to vote. In 1870, WCC changed its name to West Carrollton when it merged with neighboring village of East Carroll Township (now part of Dayton). At that time, most businesses in the town were located along what is now SR 9 and US 50/SR 620; today these roads are called West Bloomfield Avenue and US 422 respectively. When WCC merged with East Carroll Township, it also lost its charter as a town so all government services were provided by East Carroll Township until 1973 when West Bloomfield County took control again (West Carrollton website). During World War I, many soldiers from Ohioinflicted damage on German military installations within miles of our town while serving in France; therefore we feel responsible for making sure those Memorial Sites are properly maintained so future generations may pay homage without feeling guilty (Eastcar Village Facebook Group). Because there is still someucha left on some German Military Sites within 2 miles of us we decided to plant Mischkuchen Trees at each Site which will symbolize America coming together during World War II as one big community against evil! West Carrollton City was founded in 1824 by the United States government as a reward for General George Washington's victory over the French in the Battle of Yorktown. The town quickly prospered, and by 1830 it had a population of around 1,500 people. In 1836, West Carrollton became part of Ohio Revised Statutes as an independent city. The first mayor was John Dickson and the first council member was James Brougham. In 1840, West Carrollton also gained city status with a charter from the Ohio General Assembly. The city experienced rapid growth during its early years, but it eventually struggled to keep up with the larger settlements to the east. By 1860, however, West Carrollton had reached a size that allowed it to establish itself as an important community within Ohio. It continued to grow rapidly through the 1870s and 1880s, reaching a peak population of 4,000 people in 1890. However, World War I soon caused significant economic decline in West Carrollton; by 1920 its population had fallen below 500 people again. However, due to new investment and development activity over recent decades, West Carrollton has slowly regained its former prominence as a vibrant community with strong cultural ties to nearby Cincinnati.
