The history of optical accessories in West Carrollton City begins with the establishment of a dispensary in 1916. The dispensary was founded by Dr. Harry J. Hecker and Mrs. Alice Hecker, who were both graduates of Ohio State University. At that time, optical equipment was not commonly available to consumers and patients required specialized products to improve their vision. The Hecker dispensary offered a variety of products including corrective lenses, contact lenses, spectacles, and eyeglasses. In 1927, the dispensary opened its second location in the former Bamberger Hotel in downtown West Carrollton City. The new location became known as the “Optical Research Center” because it was where Optical Engineers from various companies worked on improving optic technology. In 1951, Drs. Harry J. Hecker and John Cavanaugh purchased the old Bamberger Hotel and began to operate the center as an independent business entity called “The Optic Shop” Ltd.. From 1951-1957, The Optic Shop produced over 1,000 items including corrective lenses, contact lenses, spectacles, eyeglasses and sunglasses for use by consumers throughout Ohio and Kentucky!
West Carrollton City is a city in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,890 at the 2010 census. West Carrollton City is the second-smallest city in Stark County and the third-most populous city east of the Mississippi River. It is part of the Dayton–Daytona Beach–Muncie, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become West Carrollton City were farmers and their families who arrived around 1810 from Maryland. By 1830, there were 10 families living in what became West Carrollton City. The first post office was established in 1834 and was called "Somerset". In 1855, WCC incorporated as a town under the name "West Carrollton". In 1892, when Cleveland annexed much of Stark County including present day West Carrollton City, WCC lost its right to vote bylaw but still had an elected mayor and three trustees who governed it through regulation by Cleveland's Board of Education which also consisted of six representatives from each township west of the Scioto River within Cleveland's limits. At that time only white people could own property in townships west of the Scioto River while black people could only live on farms east of it In 1951 during renovations to Municipal Stadium on Brown Street (now University Avenue), construction workers noticedfff a large hole in one wall leading into a crawlspace underneath Municipal Stadium which served as an loo for employees during games. Upon closer inspection they found that this hole existed because Mayor John Jowers had installed illegal Therefore they filed suit against him with US District Court eventually winning $53 million dollars vs John Jowers On November 5th 2006 at 6:00pm local time Mayor John Jowers announced his resignation effective immediately effective December 1st 2006 citing health reasons This event caused some controversy as many believed that he had been caught up in corruption scandals preceding his departure

West Carrollton City was founded in 1836 by James and Damella West. The city was named for the then-new town of Carrollton, which had been established a few miles to the south. The first settler in West Carrollton City was Dr. John Denton, who arrived in 1836. At that time, the area around present day West Carrollton was part of what is now Mahoning County. In 1840, James and Damella West built a log cabin on the edge of what is now University Avenue in West Carrollton. The couple continued to live there until their death in 1870. That same year, they married Anna Pembert and moved into their new home together. Anna died two years later, but James remained living at home until his death in 1875. The Wests donated most of their property to the town of Carrollton when they died; however, some portions were given to other citizens before becoming part of West Carrollton City proper. For example, parts of School Street and Elm Street were given to Mr. Lewis Huntbach prior to its incorporation into the city limits in 1892; while Church Lane became part of East Cleveland following its incorporation into the city limits in 1902). The early residents of West Carrollton City included Drs., John Denton (1836), Anna Pembert (1870), James WEST (1875-1890) & Mrs Ann Pembert (1870-1902). In addition to these initial settlers there were many subsequent families that came and went over time including: Lewis Huntbach (1892-1900), George Stephenson (1901-1913), Harry Herndon (1914-1920), Everett Snyder (1920-1927) & Nancie Ayer Weinstock(1927-1963).
