The modern-day history of the firearms industry in West Carrollton City, Ohio can be traced back to 1892, when the first gun shop in town was opened by John and Laura Sennett. The shop served as a drop-off spot for customers who bought firearms from local dealers. The store also sold ammunition and other firearm accessories. In 1902, the Sennett’s merged with another gunshop, the Gadsden Gun Shop, and began selling rifles and shotguns. That same year, they added handguns to their store inventory. By 1923, all three shops had closed their doors; however, the Gadsden Gun Shop reopened under new ownership in 1928 and continued to sell handguns until it too closed its doors in 1945.
West Carrollton City is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, located in the northwestern corner of the state. As of the 2010 census, its population was 15,569. The city is named after General James Hays West who led American forces during the American Civil War. The first European to visit what is now West Carrollton was George Washington who camped outside of town on July 4, 1795 while surveying and mapping his route through central Ohio. The area that became West Carrollton was originally part of Scioto County which was organized on February 14, 1801 under the name "Ross Township". On November 5, 1806, Ross Township was renamed "Carroll Township". On March 3, 1814, Carroll Township changed its name to "West Carrollton Township". In 1825 it changed again to "West Carrollton City" as part of a trend by several townships in northern Ohio to become self-governing municipalities. On October 12, 1881, when Cleveland Municipal Court moved from downtown Cleveland to new building at Third District and Superior Street (now Public Square), West Carrollton City had jurisdiction over all misdemeanor cases except for those involving Internal Revenue Service agents or members of the military; this arrangement continued until 1984 when criminal court jurisdiction transferred from Cleveland Municipal Court to Summit County Criminal Courts due to an increase in felony prosecutions there. The old courthouse on Third District and Superior Street still stands today used as a bailiff's office for municipal court proceedings and has been occupied since 1984 by offices associated with Warren Local School District No 912 which operates two elementary schools adjacent to it on Superior Avenue - one used as a gymnasium and one served as K-8 public school before being leased back to WCRDS in 2005; additionally there are administrative buildings used by both Warren Local School District No 912 and Summit County Sheriff/Administration Building which also housed police headquarters before they were moved out into their present location within Parkland Village development (which includes most of East Cleveland) between First Avenue and Euclid Street; these buildings were designed by architect John Pomeroy Tudor who also built several other examples of Renaissance Revival architecture in east Cleveland including Our Lady Of Good Hope Roman Catholic Church at 216 Euclid Street (dedicated 1889), St Paul's Episcopal Church at 222 Superior Avenue (dedicated 1895), Masonic Temple at 206 E First Ave (dedicated 1898), Hammonds Drug Store at 226 E First Ave (dedived 1901) among others. In 1923 Columbus Mayor John Fenton proposed that each township form a zoning board with himself chairing it responsible for setting maximum building limits within their respective boundaries so that no undesired growth could take place without proper planning consent from all interested parties - this proposal failed but urban renewal plans did succeed resulting in increased building activity throughout much of north central Ohio during the 1930s especially around downtown Columbus where multiple highrises were built near then Lorain Road/ Sixth Avenue intersection culminating with construction of The Tower complex nearby known formally as The Castle which reached up unto , becoming home not only To A Who's Who Of America's Top Economic Officials But Also More than 400 Unique People Including 30 Nobel Laureates And 500 Businesses By 1938 When It Was Demolished In 1943 That Year After Being Owned By A Mr Cushman For 45 Years Which Is Now The Home Of A Museum About That Time
