In West Carrollton City, Ohio there are many firearms collectors and hatters. The city has a rich history with handguns being the main weapon of choice for most residents. From 1835-1892, handguns were legal in West Carrollton and many people still carry them today. The first handgun was bought by George Waddell in 1835 from a trader on the Great Lakes. It was used as a club and could only be fired by pistol shooting at small game. In 1868, John Nevin opened his store at 2nd and High Streets and began selling pistols to civilians. He called his shop "Nevin's Pistol Shop." Soon other gun stores followed suit throughout the city. During prohibition in Ohio (1920-1934), law enforcement officers were not allowed to get any guns or purchase any ammunition without a license from the state police office in Youngstown. This posed a problem for those who wanted to buy handguns for personal use or protection from criminals. However, many residents still had access to their pistols through private sales or friends/family members who owned shops that sold weapons illegally. From 1934-1988, handgun sales were legalized but no ammo was available until January 1st of each year when the new ammo tax went into effect (the current ammo ban is due to expire December 15th). holster restrictions also applied during this time period which made it difficult for citizens to acquire handguns legally without breaking the law or purchasing illegal ammo online/over the internet/. Firearms collectors have been able to enjoy working on their collection since before Prohibition ended in 1934 though it wasn't until 1988 that they became legal under Ohio Law

West Carrollton City, Ohio is a city in and the county seat of Carroll County, Ohio, United States. The population was 28,812 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern border of Ohio's Lorain County. West Carrollton City formed in 1837 as a small community named for Captain John West who had fought in the War of 1812. The first post office was established in 1839, and by 1850 its population had grown to around 100 residents. In 1861 West Carrollton became part of Cleveland after it was lost to that city during the American Civil War. In 1901, the town trustees changed its name to West Carrollton Township because they wanted to be more specific about their boundaries and were unhappy with their original name which included parts of both Lorain County and Summit County. At that time there were no other cities or towns within 25 miles (40 km) of West Carrollton Township so this change represented a major milestone for the community as it solidified its place within municipal limits. The township has since seen many changes – most notably when it joinedthe Federal District in 1987 – but has always remained an important part of local life and economy. Major employers include Wright-Patterson Air Force Base; Wartime shipbuilding; Bloomsteel Steel & Wire; FirstEnergy Electric Cooperative; andWright-Patterson Air Force Base Services Inc., which provides services such as fire protection and security for base facilities across southeastern Ohio According to the 2010 census, 22% of West Carrollton City's residents are Hispanic or Latino*, making it one of America’s fastest-growing Hispanic communities*. Hispanics make up 27% of total population* while non-Hispanic whites make up 72%. West Carrollton City, Ohio is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati–Middletown-Wilmington metropolitan area. The city was founded on November 11, 1824 by landowner John W. Carleton and others as West Carrollton Township (now Butler County). On February 14, 1827, it became a village under the name of Carrolltown. The name change to West Carrollton City on January 15, 1893. The first post office in West Carrollton City was established on December 12, 1865. The present post office building was built in 1907 and is located at 6th and State Streets. In 1954 the town merged with neighboring Wilmot Township to form the larger community of Dayton Beach which continues to use that name today although it has no connection with classic West Carrollton politics or culture
