During much of its history, West Carrollton City was known for its large breweries - including Carpenters brewery which operated from 1892-1973 - as well as brickyards and other manufacturing businesses. However, over time these industries have all but disappeared due to suburban growth; while there are still some small businesses operating within the city limits today (such as an ice cream truck), they generally do not generate much economic activity outside of town boundaries. Despite this overall lack of success, there has been recent progress made towards revitalization efforts within the city limits – most notably through a $5 million dollar grant awardedto local entrepreneurs in 2013 – which has helped to spur new business development and resurgent interest in traditional downtown commerce. Overall, despite some initial setbacks - such as a long period without major league baseball or professional basketball - West Carrollton City has managed to remain an active community throughout much of its history, both positive and negative: providing opportunities for residents both inside and outside of town boundaries; playing an important role in shaping both rural Cincinnati AND urban Cleveland ; remaining home to significant numbers of workers throughout various sectors; yet also offering limited opportunities for residentsoutside those bounds to experience some aspectsof life inside the larger city center1
West Carrollton City was incorporated on March 5, 1892. The city was named for Capt. James West who helped lead the Union army during the American Civil War. The population of West Carrollton City at its incorporation was 1,500 people.
