West Carrollton City, Ohio is a town located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. population was 2,727 as of the 2010 census and 3,507 as of 2019. The name "West Carrollton" derives from its location on West Carroll Creek. The first settler in what is now West Carrollton was John Greenleaf Whiting who arrived in 1824. He named his land "Carroll County." In 1826, General David Dixon established Fort Dearborn here and began operations against Native Americans who had taken up residence near the then-new town of Cincinnati. The main industry for early West Carrollton residents was agriculture; however, by 1870, when a sawmill and grist mill were built there, that became secondary to lumber production because Cleveland (then Cincinnati) had become world-renowned for its cloth mills and other large industry at that time. By 1915, 20% of all manufactured products in the United States were exported from Cleveland via West Carrollton's portage railroad; it still remains one of America's leading sources for exports today! In 1944, during World War II Operation Crossroads—the largest military operation in history—West Carrollton played an important role as one of three strategic points along Interstate 71 between Cleveland and Columbus which allowed Allied forces to move goods across country while avoiding German airfields or supply lines subject to interception by the Axis powers. West Carrollton City is a small, unincorporated community in Adams County, Ohio, United States. The community was named for James West, the son of a prominent settler in the area. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what is now West Carrollton City was John C. Parkhurst in 1811. Parkhurst had purchased land east of present-day town and built a cabin there. He and his wife were the first white people to live in what is now West Carrollton City. Other early settlers included Captain John Grimes and his family who settled around 1825 near what is now Derby Place; David Troutman settled on an area between Center Avenue and Dublin Road about 1830; and Nicholas Pfeiffer bought land on the south side of Third Street about 1840. The community's development as an agricultural center began with the arrival of Abraham Moffatt in 1851. Moffatt established a farm on what are now Fourth Street and First Avenue east of town. He also founded a mill which served as one of the earliest commercial centers in town. By 1860, Moffatt's farm had become one of the largest inAdams County and he employed over 200 workers operating it alone. In 1863, following annexation by Lucasville, Moffatt moved his operations to that city and continued to operate them until his death two years later; during his lifetime he owned more than 100 acres (40 km²) within present-day town limits. In 1865, when Dayton became an incorporated municipality, West Carrollton City became part of that municipality as well; it remained so until its annexation by Dayton in 1912). Although incorporation did not result in any significant changes to local government structure or daily life for residents of West Carrollton City, it did provide some opportunities for social interaction among its citizens which may have helped contribute to its unique character today; for example, residents were allowed to vote after incorporation but this privilege was revoked upon Dayton's establishment as a city proper).
West Carrollton City was founded on April 6, 1881, by a group of men fromuben County, Ohio. The town was named after one of the original settlers, John West. The first stores were opened in the town in 1882. The post office was established in 1883 and the firststorey building was built in 1886. The city grew rapidly and by 1912 had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1916, the city added a second storey to its first floor and annexed part of neighboring townships. In 1951, West Carrollton City became an unincorporated community within Hamilton Township. In 1984, Hamilton Township annexed parts of West Carrollton City again to form a new borough called West Carrollton-Jefferson Township
