JFenton opened the store on Main Street near what is now the shopping center called “The Arsenal” today known as Fox Chapel Shopping Center. In 1875 John Fenton Jr., son of John Fenton Sr.,opened a second store on High Street just east of downtown which became known as the Armoury due to its importance for supplying artillery with bullets during World War I (the First World War). In 1916 JFenton announced his intention to sell all his businesses except his gunsmithing business to Eberhard Buchholz who would become co-owner of both stores together under the name “Buchholz & Sons” (later renamed Winchester Arms Corporation). In 1923 James Prentice bought Buchholz & Sons from Eberhard Buchholz for $2 million dollars ($135 million at current prices). James Prentice was a major player in American munitions manufacturing during this time period because he oversaw development of many successful new munitions products including incendiary rounds used against Japanese targets during World War II (1939-1945) Prentice also helped shape Winchester into one of America’s leading firearms companiesduring this time period with several key successes including introducing the world’s first self-loading rifle – the Winchester Model 1895 – back into production in 1903 During these years many residents of West Carrollton City formed their own businesses within their respective industries or found work at larger companies within American munitions manufacturing like Colt Firearms Company or DuPont de Nemours & Co . However it wasn't until after James Prentice's death that things truly began to change at Winchester when young Phil Long took over as President/CEO from 1978 until 1990 Shortly before Phil Long's assumption of leadership control over Winchester we learned about another potential succession problem; Jim Boggess had unsuccessfully sought election as CEO but had not yet reached retirement age so he could continue working past that point . To avoid any imminent conflict between long term management succession plans two directors came up with a plan whereby Boggess would retire effective October 1990 but remain on salary through November 1991 while continuing operations as head executive officer until new leadership could be put into place . This plan went forward without objection but upon learning about it later they were forced to remove him from office after finding out he had made unauthorized sales contracts with customers while still employed by company
