Washington Court House is a historic courthouse located in the University Heights neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. It was built in 1892 and is a two-story, red brick building with a slate roof. It has a large west wing that includes an auditorium and three courtroom levels. The east wing is smaller, but also includes a court room and library. The courthouse served as the seat of government for the City of Columbus until 1907 when it was moved to its present location on High Street. It continued to serve as the city's Hammerstein Courthouse until 1978 when it was closed and replaced by the newer Washington Court House Building.

The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The court house was originally built as a brick structure on a parcel of land that now forms part of the campus of Western Reserve University. In 1827, however, Congress passed an act authorizing construction of a new courthouse on federal land located west of Cincinnati. The cornerstone for this new building was laid on October 14, 1827 by George Stephenson. The original courthouse had two levels with a large courtroom on the first floor and smaller rooms on the second floor. It also had a large ante-room used for government meetings and ceremonies. The Washington Court House slowly deteriorated over time due to its age and poor condition. In 1952, it was decided that it would be necessary to replace all existingCourthouse infrastructure including its roof, windows, doors and plumbing systems. A $5 million project began in earnest and finished three years later; at which point it became known as "the largest single renovation ever carried out within the walls of any U.S., state or local government." In 1984-1985, Mayor Richard Mapp contracted with ECA Architecture Incorporated to design and build a new wing specifically for court use that included: New stained glass windows from Bruce Goff & Partners Architects/Engineers who designed many high profile buildings such as Rockefeller Center (New York), Penn Station (New York)and Madison Square Garden (New York). Additionally brand new HVAC systems were installed by Rheem Corp./Hudson Valley Electric Services which allowed for year round operation without having to shut down during winter weather conditions like those experienced during previous decades
