The name "Warrensville Heights" may be derived from an early settler named John Warner who lived thereabouts in 1811-12.

Warrensville Heights is located on the edge of the rural Moore Township and lies just east of I-71 exit 20. The name "Warrensville Heights" likely derived from a nearby farmstead called Warriston which was named for General James Warren who fought in the American Revolution under the command of George Washington. The village itself may have been founded by early pioneers who arrived around 1814 when surveyor Samuel Eaton drew up plans for a new township in what is now Lewis Township. At that time most of what is today Warrensville Heights consisted only of small farms and woods. In 1835, Captain John Cohan built a log cabin near present day I-71 and began to sell goods he had acquired along with land he had bought near where he currently lives on Saginaw Street. In 1840, Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased some land adjacent to Captain Cohan's cabin and renamed it "Forrest Park". This name stuck and continues to be used to this day as part of Forest Hills Cemetery which stands less than two miles away from where Forrest actually lived during his lifetime (though not within modern-day Warrensville Heights). In 1851, Wm Haggerty developed an oil well at what are now addresses 7124-, 7126- & 7128-Saginaw St., becoming one of Ohio's first millionaires through his ownership and exploitation of this natural resource. By 1870 there were over 100 businesses operating in Warrensville Heights including stores, hotels, restaurants, lumberyards & more! One hundred years later many properties still remain vacant or have been turned into housing developments while others have seen further commercial development such as Albertsons next door which opened its doors in 1994 after being closed for over twenty years! Today much like then local businesses continue to thrive with products such as flowers/fruit/veggies offered outdoors as well as inside during warm days or winter months! There are also several large grocery stores scattered throughout central business district making shopping easy no matter where you are positioned! Additionally there are numerous smaller businesses situated throughout residential neighborhoods providing services such as mechanics shops etc... Finally there is also growing evidence that gourmet food joints will soon become popular here too!
