Warrensville Heights is a town in Toole County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,681 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Warrensville Heights was founded in 1836 by General John Custer and his troop of cavalry officers as a military outpost on the Scioto River. The town name comes from the nearby village of Warrensburg which was founded by Colonel Solomon Warren in 1797. The first gun sights were built in Warrensville Heights during World War I to improve artillery fire accuracy. They were later replaced with modern air-gauge guns during World War II because they were less accurate than artillery rounds fired from horseback or cannons using ballistas and mangonels. The current Warrensville Heights high school was completed in 1955 and is one of the newest schools in Dayton. This led to an increase in job opportunities for residents as well as increased development within the community itself while also creating new social networks within the villages surrounding Warrensburg Heights’ borders.
