Warrensville Heights is a city located in theuy of Warren County, Ohio, United States. The population was 31,382 as of the 2010 census. The city is named after General James "Hank" Warren who led the Union Army during the American Civil War. The first settler in what is now Warrensville Heights was David Halliday and his family in 1802. The city was chartered in 1836 by Colonel John Sellers and named for General James Hank Warren who had fought against Native Americans at Battle of Fallen Timbers. In 1851, Samuel Hays donated land to the town for a public school andlibrary. In 1865, John Capps built a large farmhome on property he had been given by Hays for use as a school gymnasium and other civic activities. In 1901, Edwin Drake donated land to the town for an industrial park that would include a cotton gin, distillery, and bakery. By 1907, most of what is now downtownWarrensville Heights had been erected with only some remains of the original buildings remaining today including Drake’s Distillery which still stands today (now known as part of PNC Bank) and housing developments such as Chase Tower (now called One Financial Center). The community experienced significant growth from World War II through the early 1960s when many manufacturing plants closed or were moved out to larger towns or cities across America due to wartime production restraints. This growth halted abruptly after military defense spending escalated in 1966-1967 which caused job losses throughout much of America. However, new businesses began flowing into Warrensville Heights during this period thanks to investment by local entrepreneurs such as Donohue Development Company which purchased several mills along with other properties around town for $8 million dollars in 1967-1968 creating one of Cleveland’s largestever redevelopment projects ever while continuing heavy industrialemployment until it ceased operations in 2003 citing economic reasons unrelated to Iraq/War involvement). After several years of farming success, James decided to move west to settle permanently in Ohio. He arrived at what is todayWarrensville Heights on October 30, 1812. James and Deborah married on February 10, 1814 at an Episcopal church located just outside present-day Green Township. They had two children: John (1815-1892) and Mary (1817-1901). Although their first home didn’t have any indoor plumbing or electricity – it did have a large windmill – the couple quickly learned how to enjoy life within their small community near Dayton. In 1840, when the township of Perrysburg was organized into villages*, James and Deborah moved from their home to become its first citizens*. This marked an important milestone for the town because it demonstrated that society could rapidly grow without sacrificing basic infrastructure* (* Organization date has been erroneously reported as March 1st instead).
