Warren is a small town in central Ohio, located on the edge of the Sandusky Peninsula. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. Warren has been covered by The Plain Dealer since 1892 and its history can be traced back to its establishment as a village in 1824. The first postmaster was Ulysses S. Grant and the first settler was Timothy Pickens. In 1827, John Richardson founded what would become the town of Warren after purchasing 2,000 acres of land from the state of Ohio. The town's name comes from General James K., who commanded American forces during the French and Indian War and later served as supervisor of lands for that region in 1795-1802. In 1825, Warren became one of twelve villages created within Scioto County when it was split off from Muskingum County. That same year saw the founding of an agricultural society named The Noble Experimenter which developed corn, beans, wheat and other crops for local consumption with help from donations from area landowners. In 1830, investors began to purchase additional parcels of land in present-day Warren; these included 8 ½ miles (13 km) along US Route 6 north to a mill pond on Beaver Creek where they built a gristmill; 2 ½ miles (3 km) east to what are now West High School and North Middle School; 1 mile (1½ km) west to Whitehouse Hollow Road; and 9½ miles (15 km) south along US Route 422 to what is now East High School. By 1840, there were 10 businesses registered with the postal service in present-day Warren - six farms outgrew their initial acreage allocation and reopened as stores or taverns catering to travelers passing through on their way between Cleveland and Cincinnati via US Routes 6 & 422/West Side Highway). A millinery shop opened up on Main Street in 1840 by Mrs. Amelia Fowler which continued operations until 1865 when it closed due to business competition by larger mills operating nearby such as Humble Manufacturing Companyowned by Andrew Carnegie Beginning around 1850 sales tax receipts went up steadily for various township services including school board meetings held at various locations throughout township each weeknight despite objections from some residents who felt those fees should stay within Township coffers rather than going into personal pockets of those involved In 1853 trustees adopted a new constitution which provided for two elected officials: clerk/treasurer plus four trustees - two men apiece - responsible for education, indigent relief, fire protection etc.; also authorized election spending authorization not exceeding $2 per day for all civil officers except justices thereof who may expend no more than $5 per day without prior written consent from either trustee or legislatrix [sic]

Grant, then the United States Secretary of War. In 1850, Warren became the capital of Ohio and it remained so until 1912 when Columbus took over as the state capital. The city has since become one of the most populous in Ohio with a population over 1 million residents today. The history of Warren begins with General James K. Polk who founded it in 1814 on land that he had acquired from local Native American leader Shawnee Chief Wyandotte. Polk saw this area as an opportunity to improve transportation between Cincinnati and points northward through his role as Secretary of War under President James Kahl (1809-1825). By 1836, Cleveland had become one of Ohio’s largest cities with more than 5,000 citizens living there alone! The growth of Cleveland was due to its location at the crossroads of two important trade routes:the Great Lakes Trail ran through Cleveland along the Scioto River;andthe Erie Canal connected Cleveland to Buffalo via Lake Erie! In 1850, after becomingOhio’s capital pursuant to an act passed by Congress that year, Warren transitioned from being an agricultural community to becoming a leading industrial town thanks to itsyers, printers, aluminum manufacturers, machine shops and other businesses attracted by opportunities created by new technologies such asrailroads and canalboats! By 1912 however – following years of consolidation within Ohio’s larger economy – Columbus replacedWarren as Ohio’s primary economic center! This transition is significant given that during those yearsWarren experienced rapid growth – averaging nearly 20% per year during periods from 1860-1920! Today – despite some recent declines in activity – much remains unchanged about what made Warren so successful throughout its centuries-long history: its resources (farmers & workers), urbanicity (growing population) and centrality (positioned near major highways) which helped make her one of America’s most vibrant metropolises!
