Warren, Ohio is home to the world's first commercial ammunition plant. The factory was founded in 1879 by George Washington Warren and his son John, who were later joined by their brother-in-law, W.T. Boykin. The company manufactured bullets for firearms and other munitions until 1915 when it merged with Winchester Ammunition Company. The name of the new company changed several times – from Winchester (1895–1915) to American Munitions Corporation (AMC) (1915–1920), then American Ammunition Company (AAC) (1920–1941), finally American Arms Manufacturing Company (AAMC) 1941-1945. In 1879, George Washington Warren opened a bullet factory in what is now downtown Warren on the banks of the Little Miami River. He developed a process for making Bullets that he named "The Bullet Process." It involved blasting an iron ore vein with dynamite and extracting its metal content; this metal was then cast into small pieces and used to make Bullets. In 1895, he sold his interest in the business to W T Boykin, who continued to run it as a separate business until 1915 when it merged with Winchester Ammunition Company. At that point, the two companies became one entity under the name of Winchester Incorporated. In 1916, three years after mergerding with Remington Rand Tobacco Co., Winchester Incorporated changed its name once again – this time to American Munitions Corporation Limited Partnership). On July 1st 1920 Amec organized as part of United States Trust Coorporation which held interests in munitions businesses all over America including Winchesters Armoury & Manufacturing Co., Remingtons Powder Works etc.. With World War II looming large Ammo production shifted from munitions plants like those at Brady Arsenal into factories devoted only to war materials such as artillery shells and aircraft bombs during 1945-1946 alone! After World War II ended Ammo production increased significantly due bothTo postwar demand for allies such as Japan while also bringing about technological advancements that made further refinement possible within Ammo manufacturing processes!

The modern ammunition industry began in 1848 with the development of percussion cap firearms. The first metallic cartridges were created in 1857 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Louis Tregay, both engineers at the French Army's arsenals. These early cartridges used lead-based ammunition which had a soft explosive effect when fired from a muzzleloader. In 1866, an American company, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, produced its own Metallic Cartridge Company product using copper-alloyed cases. This new cartridge was more powerful (20 rounds compared to 12 rounds for the old Lead shot type) and less expensive to produce than earlier types. It quickly became popular due to its convenience and accuracy. In 1877, Congress passed the National Firearms Act which prohibited any person from manufacturing or selling any firearms that could shoot balls of more than .25 caliber through a barrel shorter than 26 inches (65 cm). This act also made it illegal for anyone to possess or use any obsolete or dangerous firearm. As a result of this law, Winchester ceased production of their older leadshot types in 1880 and replaced them with their new smokeless powdercased ammunition products known as "Winchester Super Nos."
