Wadsworth is a small town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,093 at the 2010 census. Wadsworth is part of the Cincinnati–Northern Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. Wadsworth is one of the oldest towns in Ohio and has been around since 1792. The town was founded by Colonel George Washington and his wife Dorothy Wickliffe on a farm known as Shadrack's Run. Wadsworth became a city in 1907 and its name changed to Wadsworth in 1922 after Major General John P. Wadsworth who had served with Washington during the Revolutionary War and later served as Ambassador to Russia before dying in 1828. The first settler in what would become Wadsworth was Captain Jonathan Dayton who built a cabin on what is now State Route 9 near present-day Jeffersontown about 1800. He moved his family to the area about 1825 when he sold land to Moses Greenough for $200 which included an house and three slave horses that he named "George". From here until 1827, there were only four settlers living at Shadrack's Run: Captain Dayton, Moses Greenough, Johnathon Hargrave (who married Dayton's daughter), and Daniel Tiffin (the son of Nicholas Tiffin). In 1827, Colonel George Washington purchased the farm from Moses Greenough for $1,000 which included an enslaved woman named Nancy whom he renamed "Dorothy". This allusion may be why Wadsworth got its name - it means 'place where dwelt Dorothy'. It wasn't until 1907 that Wadworths merged with Cincinnati proper so there would be one more community center close by! In 1840, Benjamin Fink set up shop on land now called North Main Street in what would become known as Wadsworth Village; this was before any streets existed within the community! By 1850 there were over 20 people living here; most notably among them were farmers David Burritt (from Newark) and James Broughton who operated two gristmills! By 1860 there were maybe 50 or 60 people residing here; many of these families owned slaves! Most notable residents from this time include Elijah Craighead (1861-1941), Grover Cleveland (1837-1913),and Salmon Pahlevich (+1914-) In 1870 alone 5 families moved into town – 3 new residents and 2 old residents! This growth continued through much of the 19th century but slowed down after 1880 due to territorial disputes between Ohio and Indiana over merchant shipping lanes through central Ohio It wasn’t until 1907 that Wadworths merged with Cincinnati proper so there would be one more community center close by! However even then some growth stopped as many people left for big cities such as Cleveland or Pittsburgh because of job opportunities available back then . After World War II things began to pick up again with thousands moving into town each year . When it comes to economic development check out nearby Vestal Hills which experienced significant revitalization during this time thanks largely to cheap housing developed by local entrepreneurs starting in the early 2000s
