Wadsworth, Ohio is a small town located in the unincorporated community of Wadsworth on the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The town was founded in 1824 by Washington Irving and his family. In 1902, J.P. Morgan donated land to Wadsworth for a public library and several years later, the first Wadsworth High School opened its doors. In 1915, Wadsworth became an incorporated city and began to experience rapid growth due to its location as a transportation center on the river and its proximity to Cleveland. During World War II, Wadsworth played an important role as an RAF airfield and manufacturing center for aircraft parts during the war effort. In 1951, Wadsworth became home to the State Fairgrounds which continue to be used today by local residents and visitors alike. Today, Wadsworth is one of the most vibrant communities in Summit County with a rich history that offers something for everyone interested in learning about it. In 1925, a company called Wernher & Sohn began producingbinoculars for the military. By 1933, there were over two hundred businesses that soldbinoculars in Wadsworth.

Wadsworth was founded in 1814 by Joshua Wadsworth and his wife Esther. Wadsworth's first store opened in 1816 on the site of present-day Jardine Avenue and High Street. In 1825, the town became an independent village when it seceded from Cuyahoga County. The village had a schoolhouse and six stores before it merged with Wadsworth in 1830. Wadsworth was incorporated as a town in 1838. The original name of the town was "Powell". After Congressman James Pugh died in 1840, the townspeople voted to change their name to "Wadsworth" after him because they felt he had helped them during their struggle for independence from Cuyahoga County.

Wadsworth is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and part of the Dayton-Middletown, OH-KY-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. It was founded by George Wadsworth in 1792. The population was 10,611 at the 2010 census. Wadsworth is located on the edge of Dayton's Urban Core and is bordered by Dayton to the east, Middletown to the north, Perrysburg to the northwest, and Lebanon Township to the south. The Village of Wadsworth is adjacent to both parts of Dayton's Urban Core; it includes most of Wadsworth as well as parts of Middletown and Perrysburg. Wadsworth was named for George Wadsworth, one of its founders. George Wadsworth had come from a family that owned a farm in Northampton County, Massachusetts (now Worcester), where he had married Mary Appleton in 1764. They moved to what is now Wadsworth in 1792 when their home became available for purchase after being sold by their father-in-law, General David Rogers Sr.. The town was platted on March 12th, 1802 by John Dunkerly under charter from President James Ketchum with land given him by Andrew Johnson.. In 1803–04 Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest traveled through Ohio stopping at Wadsworth before continuing his march across America into Tennessee.. On his way back downstate he visited Wadsworth and ordered several hundred barrels of whiskey be hauled overland from Cincinnati via Uniontown (now Covington) so that he could taste it before making his decision about whether or not to enter into war with France The village began growing rapidly due to its location near two large transportation hubs – Dayton and Middletown – which made it easy for people to get around without having too much trouble finding work or housing.. In 1907 they built a schoolhouse on Main Street which served as their first courthouse until 1911 when they replaced it with a more permanent structure which still stands today In 1913 there were three businesses downtown: A store run by Jno Sledge & Bros., an undertaker named Gorman & Sons funeral directors, and Revs Finnigan & Coaches hardware store A new high school was built in 1925 which remains standing today After World War II people started moving out towards central Ohio because there were better jobs available there In 1957 Wadsworth lost its water supply but soon regained it thanks to volunteerism In 1978–79 construction began on a shopping center anchored by Sears Roebuck & Co called King Center Mall which opened in 1981
