In 1951, J&J Fenton Glass merged with Allied Signal Corporation to form AT&T Bell Incorporated (later telecom operator Time Warner). In 1957, Vandalia annexed what would become Muskingum County into Ohio government service as an area encompassing much more than just downtown Vandalia; it was then called "the Township." In 1967-1968, local students organized a boycott against their high school's participation in A Better World Summit due to lack of representation from within their community by then- Superintendent Neil Sears and his staff; however this boycott failed due largely to public opposition within Muskingum County government itself which saw education as an important issue vote upon at that time That same year also saw significant construction progress take place on Western Avenue between Main Street and High Street with plans for further development including both retail storefronts as well as residential units; this further transformed downtown into one large mixed use shopping center known today simply as "Downtown". At this time also another major milestone occurred when renovations were completed on First Baptist Church which served as both home church for Mayor John Daley (now Chicago Mayor) during his mayoral term starting in 1964 until 1974 while he resided in Chicago proper; during his tenure Downtown experienced some name changes becoming "Church Park" after that year's annexation while Second Baptist Church remained Downtown under new ownership until its demolition following the Great Recession which greatly hurt Downtown business values overall . Noteworthy examples of Downtown redevelopment during those early years include two new movie theaters being built next door to each other - Regal Cinemas & AMC Theatres - making downtownMuskingum County perhaps even more vibrant than ever before with multiple entertainment options available without driving out any residents or businesses who may have otherwise supported those ventures Additionally: several restaurants began openings up along Western Avenue near First Baptist Church providing yet another level of vibrancy not seen since those earlier days yet still affordable for all types of dining alike . Finally but most importantly: nearly twenty years later when services stopped running from majority-owned firehouse number 4 located on Main Street across from Third Place Brewery following an arson attack that left three firefighters injured - downtownVandalsia essentially reverted back to pre-recession levelsliness with almost no commercial or housing development taking place outside Historic Third Place Brewery itself
