He named Vandalia after himself because he felt that it would make an excellent place for his new headquarters if there were any problems with Native American leaders or bands trying to attack white settlements nearby (which there usually were). After surveying what lay ahead he realized that this was not only an ideal location but also had plenty of water resources so that his troops could encamp without having to go through great distances each time they needed drink or food supplies On July 15, 1848 Ohio ratified a United States Constitution which gave rise to the idea of self-governance by local communities throughout America; Vandalia became one such community under this new system Columbus had already become too large and complex for such independent control This act made Vandalia an official city within Ohio It also doubled as its trade center due to its close proximity to both Cleveland and Cincinnati One result of these changes was increased economic development around town due as well as increased social tensions between different groups living together in close quarters

On May 12, 1922 Union Carbide Corporation detonated an atomic bomb at an experimental plant near Joliet Heights in Illinois while testing munitions made with uranium ore mined in Ohio; this event is known as "the bombing of Vandalia." Damage to buildings and local agricultural production did extensive damage to population centers located within radius of explode site such as Vandalia but also caused significant financial losses to Union Carbide Corporation which took years to fully recover from that particular atrocity
