Vandalia is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio, and the county seat of Warren County. The population was 21,582 at the 2010 census. The town was named for General Andrew Marcy Vaughan, who fought against Native Americans in what is now West Virginia during the American Revolution. Vaughan's forces burned down an Indian village near Vandalia on July 3, 1800 to punish them for supporting the British side. A post office called Vandalia was established in 1814, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The current name comes from General Andrew Marcy Vaughan's letter to his comrades after burning down the village: "After having burned all their houses and Canoes within view I invested this place with my Officers and men...I believe that we have done more good here than any other place on our route." The city has experienced many Locust Wars between settlers and Native Americans throughout its history; one such war occurred when three companies of Shawnee Indians invaded Vandalia on December 1, 1825 while under command of Colonel John Rankin. A force of 20mountains led by Major James Wilkinson destroyed most of their camps before being repelled by savageshuntting for plundering white soldiers throughout much of central Ohio during this time period known as "The War Betweenthe Two Nations". In 1832 a group led by Thaddeus Stevens purchased land along Main Street which became today's downtown core; construction began soon thereafter including a sawmill and gristmill which processed lumber from local forests into boards and doors for businesses such as Fenton & Clark Furniture Company (now JCPenney). In 1923 brick buildings were erected southwest of downtown to house Warren County government; these are still standing today as part of downtowns main retail district.. By 1902 over half a million bricks had been produced locally alone! In 1886 two brothers founded The Ohio Brick Workshops which remain one of America's largest brick manufacturers to this day with production continuing until present day across six facilities located throughout central Ohio

Vandalia is a town in and the county seat of Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Daytona, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1810 by John Vandal and his family as a small community on the Little Miami River near what is now Painesville. In 1814, Vandalia became an independent township and from 1815 to 1821 it was part of Sandusky County. During this time, it had a population of only 150 people. On July 10, 1821, Vandalia became an incorporated village under the name of "Vandalia." In 1830, Vandalia become part of Columbiana County when it was created from parts of Sandusky and Greene Counties. The town's first courthouse was built in 1830 and remained in use until 1935 when it was replaced by the current one at 123 Elm Street. In 1850, Vandalia had a population of 1,500 people; however its growth slowed down due to competition from larger towns such as Dayton and Middletown which began to form during this time period around central Ohio with their Yankee-ized culture and advances in transportation technologies like railroads. However starting around 1865 there began to be an increase in immigration from Hungary (mostly agricultural workers) which led to significant economic development for Vandalsville with new mills being built along the Little Miami River including one that still stands today - Hudson’s Bay Company Mill - which employed up to 1,000 workers at its peak between 1890-1920. 1 2 3
In 1830, Vandalia was founded by John C. Frick and James W. Cooke. It prospered as a small town until the American Civil War caused it to decline. In 1881, Vandalia merged with the neighboring city of Stow to form the City of Stow-Vandalia. In 1912, Vandalia became an independent city again after being annexed by Columbus.
