Van Wert, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Van Wert County. The population was 7,813 at the2010 census. It is located in the Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The town was platted on March 1, 1811 by James Van Wert and his brother-in-law Major General George Rogers Clark as part of the Miami Purchase between Great Britain and Spain. The town's name comes from Dutch word "Werthert", meaning "ridge" or "hill". In 1814, troops led by Colonel William Henry Harrison forced Indian Chief Wyandotte to sign an agreement returning all stolen goods from settlers in what is now Delaware County back to their rightful owners. This event is generally cited as starting the war of 1812 which ended with Canada declaring war on America and leading to American victory over Canada at Yorktown in 1813. Van Wert served as capital of Van Wert County from 1827 until 1830 when it became Athens because that city had been chosen as the new county seat after Cincinnati became too populous for Athens to support. In 1840, Athens was renamed Columbus because that city had also been chosen as the new county seat following Cincinnati's annexation into Ohio concurrent with its becoming a state within that same year. In 1795, James Van Wert founded what is now known as First United Methodist Church (now Quicken Loans Arena). This church was among those that were platted in what later became Ohio during this time period; others include Northside Presbyterian Church (now University Hospitals Cleveland) and Christ Episcopal Cathedral (now St John's Evangelist Cathedral). The first industry established in Van Wert was farming until about 1890 when manufacturing began expanding rapidly due to advances made by industrialists such as Edward Dennett who invented an early form of air conditioning called refrigeration before moving his company to Springfield, Illinois where he built one of America's largest plants before retiring there permanently around 1920. Other large employers during this time include Rubbermaid Incorporated which produced agricultural equipment used both for agriculture and transportation before moving production overseas; General Motors Corporation which built its first factory here in 1907; Ford Motor Company which opened its first plant here in 1911; Amoco Oil Company which began production here in 1925; Procter & Gamble who opened their first plant here in 1928; JBS Harvester Co., Incorporated originally started out doing business primarily with raising horses but soon switched over to maize crops before eventually shutting down its operations completely outside Ohio after World War II while other Midwest companies continued trucking produce throughoutAmerica using open lorry units lasting until well into the 21st century producing surpluses even after Katrina hit New Orleans two decades later); Sears Roebuck & Co., whose president Atwater Gault changed world bowling regulations beginning with green pin bowling being introduced nationally within five years prior to their iconic store’s closure near Chicago’s “Loop” district some years later James Auchincloss married Alice Pauline Todd on October 2nd 1870 at First Presbyterian Church (later Quicken Loans Arena) located just east of downtown VanWERT while she still resided at her parent’s house on Market Street NW corner High Street NE across from present day Akron Civic Center complex where they lived together until his death on January 16th 1951 aged 85 years old Alice Pauline Todd Auchincloss born December 12th 1865 died November 25th 1957 currently residing at 6191 West 164th Place zip code 44433

Van Wert is located in Ashtabula County, Ohio, and was founded by Dutch settlers in 1786. The Dutch settlers who founded Van Wert were part of the early Amish community that migrated from Pennsylvania to Ohio in the late 1700s. By 1786, they had arrived in Ashtabula County and established themselves near what is now downtown Van Wert. The town's founder, Hendrick van der Velde, likely named his settlement after one of his father's earlier settlements in that region – Varennes (later Waterford). The first permanent residents of Van Wert arrived during the early 18th century. Many came from Pennsylvania via Lancaster County; others journeyed downriver on rafting boats or boatloads of families took sections of the Erie Canal route through western Pennsylvania before arriving at Buffalo Bayou on Lake Erie for transportation to colonial America. By 1800, there were over 180 people living in or nearby VanWert when it was incorporated as a village under English control on January 24, 1800. During much of this period (1790-1800), most citizens lived within walking distance of each other atop riseable land stretching along both sides of Buffalo Bayou between what is now West Main Street and North Main Street and north side Vallejo Road today. This landscape would later be developed into downtownVanWERT today following World War II efforts by developers to market their city as "the best place to live". In 1801-02 due to increasing population levels and Indian Creek Fever which swept across central Ohio around this time (a proof-of-concept strain Of dengue fever caused by Aedes mosquitoes), Governor James Kieft ordered all white males over 21 years old residing within three miles radius westward thereof must leave for two months beginning April 1st [1801]…[T]he order applied also to females but not until after sunset on April 1st so that women could use public baths without fear their husbands might follow them home….All men who failed either physically or mentally To comply With these laws were immediately driven outside their homes’ boundaries For seven days….It should be noted that many men died during this period from causes such as dehydration brought on by extreme weather conditions [sic]. Many male colonists did manage to flee for refuge back east but thousands more perished tryingrouble making it back home again before disease claimed them Another factor contributing To large numbers fleeing was lack Of food And water availability inside Colony…..Today many descendants Of those pioneer Dutch Settlers still reside & visit our Village every year
