Urbana, Ohio is a city in the state of Ohio, United States. The population was 61,213 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Greater Cleveland and part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. Urbana, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Champaign County. It lies on the southern bank of the Illiniwek River, part of the larger Chicago metropolitan area. The population was 102,243 as of 2010. The city's history dates back to 1836 when farmers in what is now Urbana started to settle on land that had been used by Native Americans for hunting and fishing. When Illinois became a state in 1818, they added Urbana to their territory. In 1836, John Davenport founded Davenport & Drake Lumber Company in Urbana and began exporting lumber from his mill to other states. In 1840, he married Jane Addams and soon after moved his family to Urbana where he ran the lumber company until his death in 1862. His wife continued running it until her death in 1908; their son Roy Addams took over operations until 1915 when it was taken over by the Armour Corporation (now Arthurs). The first post office opened in Urbana on October 14, 1836, serving Pekin township (now Champaign County). The first town meeting was held on November 15th at which time it voted unanimously to form a village ("Village Incorporated") with a government bylaws made up of nine trustees appointed by Davenport himself and two others chosen by him "from among its citizens". On December 6th, 1837, Village Incorporated obtained an charter from State Senator Nicholas Holmes who said "It will be most proper for this new society [village] to proceed through all stages of development from its present stage - such as organization into a town or village". In 1840 John Addams organized one hundred men into three companies called "Horse Guards" led by Captains George Edward Cavanagh (the future Mayor), Michael Cerveny (a prosperous brewer) and Isaac Myers (the future treasurer). These units were known as First Regiment Armory Volunteers during World War I because they served as armories for Illinois National Guard units based in Springfield Armory while also providing labor for construction projects around campus at University Park including Camp Grant near downtown Springfield; Camp Butler near Decatur; Camp White Sands near Carbondale; artillery ranges at Moline and Rock Island Arsenal east of Warsaw; equipment stores at Normal College across from UIUC's campus along Huron Street near Western Reserve University; sugar plantations near Jeffersonville southwest of Bloomington-Normal; continuing production at local mills throughout late 1800s beyond farmlands once Peoria-based Stahl Bros Paper Products shuttered operations after World War I ended In 1919 Indianapolis paper producer Royal Haines merged with Stahl Bros Paper Products making Peoria-based Stahl Bros Paper Products – still one largest paper producer west of Chicago – inactive again After much speculation within & outside industry about what would happen next various small paper producers emerged over several decades culminating with Purdue Polytechnic Institute becoming US auto parts powerhouse Alcoa beginning manufacture/marketing products formerly handled by Stahl Bros Paper Products: these included lead acid battery cells etc.. By 1938 Alcoa had built 2 plants(one large enough to house all their products) north side Of downtown IN addition another plant was being built south side just off Madison Street IN response To ever increasing aluminum demand resulting from WWII Aluminum Export Council propaganda campaign
