Urbana, Ohio, is a city in the United States. The population was 46,815 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in and the county seat of Champaign County. The first settlement in what would become Urbana was made on December 12, 1800 by Archibald Buttram and John Stephenson when they founded Butler County as part of Northwest Indiana Territory. In 1893 proposals were made for both Springfield Township (renamed Clinton) and Urbana (renamed Quincy) but these also met with stiff resistance from many residents who saw Quincy as more appropriate because it lay near their homes on State Road 16A which connected Illinois's capital Chicagoland with Chicago via direct routes through Quincy Market and downtown Urbana. Finally on November 14th 1898 votes were taken within Urbana City Council to change its name back to its original spelling - "Urban" - fulfilling one hundred years of citizen demand for an alternate name for the city located just east of Carbondale on state Routes 16A & 294A which connected Illinois's capital Chicagoland with Chicago via direct routes through Quincy Market and downtown UrbANA
