Urbana, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio. The population was 49,471 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Hamilton County and one of the six municipalities inWarren County that are part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Urbana is located on the Scioto River and is east of Cincinnati. The first white settler in what became Urbana was George Rogers Clark who visited during his exploration of central Ohio in 1795-96. He named it after his old home town, Annapolis Royal, England. In 1802, James Kapp founded Kapp's Mills on the Scioto River and soon started exporting flour to Cincinnati from his mill site which he had purchased from Nicholas Goodrich and others near Brush Valley village (nowDayton). In 1810 James Kapp moved to Toledo where he continued toselve as a miller selling flour until his death in 1827. His son John built a gristmill at Brownstown on Mynster Creek about 1830 which became one of America's leading flour mills ever operated; it still operates today under different ownership but with some traditions still keeping alive such as hand-feeding its grain to its employees during storage). In 1825 Urbana Township was organized from portions of Highland (now Perrysburg) Township and Greenville Township with a population of only eighteen people according to the U.S. Census Bureau estimate for that year because there were not enough lotteries or other sources for voting by township residents then! The first post office opened at Urbana on December 12th, 1825 under the name "Greenville". The original building still stands today on State Street just west of Second Avenue - an important stop on stagecoaches heading into and out of Cincinnati back then! In 1857 Wm Hite laid out what would become Uniontown including much current downtown Urbanas area including most now visible parts around Third Avenue between Jefferson Road/Highland Avenue and Capitol Drive/National Pike - making him one of America's earliest developers! This also spelled doom for much rural land east & northeast OF downtown present day Urbana due simply to railroads running through this area permanently smearing settlements out thin - wrecking homes & businesses along tracks looking like nothing more than debris field when finally abandoned years later! But lots more happened over these next few decades as industries grew up all around Dayton thanks largely to Des Moines based industrialists coming here looking for cheap labor rather than waiting for importation restrictions put down by British authorities (& other countries too!) That said railroad traffic shifted gradually away FROM downtown areas towards suburban Mechanicsburg & Starke beginning in earnest c 1900 leaving urbane center virtually unoccupied until recently... although many buildings remain behind large modern parking garages while newer sections have taken over key commercial districts such as First National Plaza just northwest corner Third Ave & Shakespeare Rd., formerly known as Old Midway mall!
