In 1836, a Mr. John Brown donated two pairs of binoculars to the city of Urbana for use by its citizens. From then on, binoculars would be a common sight in the town. In 1892, a group of men from Dayton founded the Dayton Optical Society and collected donations from local businesses to help fund their new venture. This club helped spread the word about optical devices and provided support for advances in technology. The society also sponsored exhibitions and educational programs about optics. In 1922, Urbana became the first city in Ohio to establish an ordinance protecting property rights with regards to patents relating thereto. This legislation was important because it helped ensure that Binocular manufacturers could continue to sell their products without fear of infringing on others’ patents. It wasn’t until 1954 thatUrbana finally adopted a Municipal Code which regulated all aspects of municipal life including public works and zoning regulations within specific limits set forth by law. Binocular manufacture continued uninterrupted until 1966 when production ceased due to lack of market demand combined with technological advancements such as digital photography which made it difficult to produce accurate images through traditional means

Urbana, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois and the county seat of Champaign County. The population was 87,829 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Champaign County by population. As of 2000 Urbana had a median household income of $55,318 and a per capita income of $30,711. In 2016 Urbana was named one of "America's Top 10 Small Cities" by Forbes magazine. The first people to settled what is now Urbana were farmers who came from eastern Kentucky around 1812-1814. The first town in Champaign County was called Cedar Grove because there were many cedars near the original town site. A post office called Cedar Grove began operation on December 12, 1837; it was discontinued on March 14, 1840 due to lack of business. The first school in Urbana was built on property belonging to Elijah Porter which he donated in 1841-1842. Porter served as superintendent for several years before his death in 1850. After Porter's death four other trustees served until their deaths: James Hinebaugh (1851-1901), John Prentice (1852-1900), Cornelius Vanderbilt (1853-1925) and George Waring (1854-1932). During this time public education did not exist withinChampaign County so private schools operated throughout most of Illinois with some students attending Vandalia Female Seminary while others attended local academies or farmer's sons' schools chartered by their parents or groups thereof when they reached age 12 or 13 years old.. In 1860 school board member Jno Burt organized an effort to build a new high school which would serve all rural residents north of Springfield but this effort failed also because no money could be raised from private individuals or businesses interested in helping build a new high school for Urbana In 1865–66 trustee John Kennedy organized an effort to raise money for a new courthouse which became successful and construction began that same year under builder Samuel Freeman with help from local citizens including banker Cincinnatus Kilbourne In 1870–71 trustee Isaac Sibley secured land east off State Street between Third and Fourth Streets for use as an Agricultural College which became known as Sibley Park after him In 1872 trustees Hiram Dearborn (an abolitionist) and Charles Hollis negotiated and obtained passage through Congress from Illinois Senate Bill 1 authorizing college tuition without payment up front to any male student regardless of race or color providing such payments could be made over time into perpetuity once graduated After much discussion among trustees about what type(s)of educational institutions should be established within Champaign County they voted on November 8th, 1874 to establish the University Of Chicago where more than 4200 students were enrolled at various levels during its initial decade including 274 males pursuing undergraduate degrees alone Some famous alumni include Drs Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D Roosevelt

The Urbana, Ohio area was first settled by the Shawnee in the early 1800s. In 1806, General George Washington established a trading post at the junction of the Great Miami and Erie rivers. The area became known as strategic land for the fledgling United States because it was near two major waterways and had abundant timber resources. In 1813, President James K. Polk moved his Headquarters from Nashville to Urbana in order to better monitor American operations in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. In 1824, Urbana was chosen as the site for Ohio’s state capital after legislators selected Columbus as the original state capital in 1797 due to its central location and rich resources. The city continued to grow rapidly throughout much of its history until it reached its peak growth during World War II when it grew from 1,000 residents to over 35,000 residents.
