In 1835, a group of men from Twinsburg, Ohio founded the first blacksmith shop in the area. The business was called "The forge and gun shop." The original forge was located on current day Jefferson Avenue. The gun shop operated for about 25 years. In 1875, the store moved to its present location on South Main Street. It continued to operate until 1935 when it closed due to financial difficulties.
Twinsburg is a town in Franklin County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The land that makes up Twinsburg was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. In 1824, the General Court of Franklin County designated the current site of Twinsburg as part of present-day Township No. 1. The township's name came from two villages within its boundaries: Twinsburg and Utopia Township (now called Marysville). In 1871, when Township No. 3 was created and included most of what is now Twinburg Township, it became one of six townships in the new county. On March 15, 1907, due to increasing population growth in central Ohio and because Vermilion Township had been organized only a few weeks earlier into an independent municipality by order of the state supreme court,[2] Twinburgh merged with Vermilion to form what is now known as "Twinburgh/Vermilion." In 1902–03, baseball great Charles Finley played ball for Two Rivers High School on Long Island outside New York City while he attended college at Amherst College;[3] he later said he would not have chosen to play high school football if Twinburgh had not been nearby.[4] In 1935, after Amherst College vacated their campus fields near downtown Amherst for use as an airfield during World War II,[5] faculty members built a field on Old Dutchman Creek south of town which they named Amherst Field in his honor. In 1941 local businessman Harry Fenton donated land east of town along State Route 22 to build a sports complex that would house bothAmherst College and Delaware Valley High School (now Delaware Valley University).[6] The complex was completed in 1945 and served as home until 1959 when Delaware Valley moved out and replaced it with Midwestern State University (MSU), which then reclassified Delaware Valley Stadium as Delaware Valley Stadium-Midwest State University which remain today seats 10K people.[7][8][9] In 1969 – 1970 OSU students staged a sit-in against tuition increases at MSU prompting then president Ed Worthington to call for increased funding for education rather than self-promotion by university administrators—a response that eventually led to tuition freezes during Worthington's tenure[10]. With enrollment swelling rapidly following OU's departure from NCAA Division I eligibility,[11][12][13], Governor John Kasich directed the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) to investigate possible annexation or merger by other universities resulting in twinning efforts throughout much of Ohio including Twinsburg entered into discussions with Whitford Community Colleege & Technical Institute southeast of Dayton but never followed through officially joining any group although several buildings located there still bear this nameplate today.[14][15][/size][/li][/ul][/div][/column][/row][/table][/center>

The first settlers in Twinsburg were farmers and their families. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Muskingum River. By 1880, the population had grown to over 400 people. In 1916, Twinsburg became a city and remains one today. The early years of Twinsburg’s growth were difficult due to numerous factors. One of the biggest challenges faced by the town was finding enough food to sustain its growing population. To make matters worse, there was not enough land available for farming or homes development. However, through hard work and creativity, Twinbergers managed to overcome these obstacles and continue expanding their businesses and community services during these tough times. In 1936, twin sisters Rebekah (née Sweet) and Karen Erhardt moved from Cincinnati to Twinsburg as part of a relocation effort sponsored by President Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal program called “Operation Alaskan Hardship” . The couple opened a successful dry goods store in what is now known as Erhardt Place . Together with their husbands-Orville (born 1932)and Harold (born 1928), they helped build Twinberg into an accomplished community that continues to thrive today!
