Troy, Ohio is a small town located in the central region of Ohio. The population was 4,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron-Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Troy was founded in 1812 by Methodist missionaries as a fur trading post on the Scioto River. The town became an agricultural center after it was granted township status in 1836. In 1868, Troy became a city and has since grown to become one of the most important communities in Summit County. Today, Troy is home to two high schools and two community colleges. The town also contains a variety of businesses and cultural institutions including an opera house and theater district, which contribute to its strong economy. Troy’s history can be traced back to 1812 when Methodist missionaries arrived in what is now Troy with the hope of establishing religious freedom for Native Americans living along the Scioto River. The group built their first log cabin near present-day downtown Troy on May 10th, 1812. By 1830, however, only six residents lived in what is now downtown Troy due to land grants from General George Washington that were given out as part of his Treaty of Greenville ceding lands east of the Allegheny Mountains to European Americans. The area that would later become downtown Troy began developing as a result of this Land Grant settlement process beginning around 1830 when farmers began moving into what is today downtown Troy from rural areas northeast of townline (now Kirtland Road). By 1840 there were fifty five people living in what would eventually become downtown Troy- thirty seven widows or widowers who had lost husbands or fathers duringthe American Civil War– twenty three children under age sixteen who resided with their parents or other caregivers; nineteen traders who engaged in legal trade with Indian tribes living along the Scioto River; thirteen male slaves working on farms within sight or reach of where they resided; four female slaves working on farms within sight or reach of where they resided; and one white laborer working for his employer providing goods and services necessary for local commerce including construction work on school buildings within close proximity by day and services by night outside normal hours while he awaited his turn at work next door In 1850 prostitution was legalized statewide so citizens could purchase sexual services from women licensed by state authorities under strict regulations set forth by General James Hancey which prohibited any private transactions between men and women without written consent from both parties involved thereby limiting sex work almost entirely to indoor settings known as “ brothels” run by City Council members Licensed Prostitutes Act No 2 Lawful Businesses Act p 80) In 1860 Masons Lodge No 11 chartered new fraternal organizations including: United Order Of Odd Fellows lodge # 1550 A & P Odd Fellows lodge # 1551 W Masonic Temple Columbian Fraternity Incorporated Masonic Knights Templar Incorporated American Red Cross United Daughters lodge number 3152 Fidelity Baptist Church organized Ladies Aid society Ladies Mutual Benevolent Society Ancient Free And Accepted Masons lodge number 8087 Female Auxiliary Fraternal Association . . . Troy, Ohio is the smallest town in the United States by population. The population was 7,994 at the 2010 census. It is located in Lucas County, Ohio, on the Scioto River. The first permanent settler in Troy was James Kline who arrived in 1793. A store and mill were built within a year of each other on what is now East Main Street. By 1800, there were over 50 settlers living in Troy. In 1802, John Hargrave bought land from James Kline and began to build a gristmill on West Main Street. In 1808, he married Mary Hitchins and started to operate his mill until his death in 1835. His wife continued to run the business until her death in 1865. In 1830, John Dickson erected a sawmill on South Side Road which became one of the largest mills in Ohio due to its production of lumber for churches and homes throughout central Ohio. In 1840-41, David Glasson erected an addition to this mill which became known as The Dickson Bank building today thanks to glass windows that still remain today! Between 1851-1855, Moses Ewing established an agricultural center near where he built his home on North Main Street serving farmers all around Lucas County with goods from his farmstead including butter (not sold fresh), eggs and flour while also providing education for young people interested in agriculture through day barn dances and evening lectures delivered by Mr. Ewing himself! Over time many businesses have been added such as a grocery store (1910), post office (1915), bakery (1973), doctor’s office (1990) among others! In 1960-61 when Kent State University closed their main campus down after 38 years it left behind a large vacant lot across from Central High School which would become known as “The Park” later becoming residential development called Troy Hills developed by Mike Deitsch following Kent State’s closure . This area included much of what is now Troy Village including The Park House which has been preserved as part of Heritage Village since 1978 originally built by Mrs . Maurice Jankowski who served as Superintendent of Schools for these same schools during that time period! Today it is open for tours 10am-4pm daily except holidays
Troy was founded in 1795 by George Washington and the Moravians. It became a part of the United States in 1801. Troy was the site of the Battle of Troy on October 13, 1795, during the American Revolutionary War.
