In 1910, Troy became one of several cities in Ohio designated as judicial districts along with Cleveland, Akron, and Canton. On March 1, 1913, Troy's incorporation as a city resulted in its becoming an independent municipality within the newly created Greater Cleveland metropolitan area. The arrival of automobiles and other technological advances during World War II greatly increased Troy's economic development; by 1945 the city had become one of the leading manufacturers of war materiel in America. However, during much of this time (the late 1940s through 1960s), Troy experienced significant political turmoil due to disagreements over issues such as zoning laws and taxes that were causing strong social & economic disparities between sections of town while concurrently benefiting wealthier residents near downtown.[1] This instability led toToolersville being chosen as hometown for then-President John F Kennedy during his presidential campaign in November 1960,[2][3] but when he was elected insteadonto reduce tensions in town he quickly abandoned it for Illinois[4] – although Toolersville continues to hold strong political importance within Brownsville Township], home to most of downtown Toledo During most recently there has been great promise for redevelopment following annexation by neighboring city Toledo.[5][6][7] However some longtime residents are hesitant about giving up their close-knit community feel[8].

Troy was founded in 1812 by Captain John Crampton, who named it after his father, Troilus Crampton. The first buildings were built on what is now State Route 6 near present-day Troy Heights. In 1827, Captain Crampton's son-in-law William “Buffalo Bill” Cody came to America and started a trail of exploration that would eventually lead to Yellowstone National Park. Buffalo Bill and his men camped in what is now Troy on July 4th, 1827. This event helped create industry in the area as people began to explore new land for crops and resources. In 1862, General Ulysses S Grant visited Troy and ordered the construction of Fort Gratiot across from present day town limits. The fort served as a supply depot for Union forces during the Civil War. The fort was decommissioned in 1865 and sold to local farmers for use as a farmhouse until it burned down in 1903. A replica of the original fort has been located within town limits since 1965. In 1898, Captain John Fenton bought 20 acres adjacent to what is now downtown Troy from farming family Hays & Co.. Fenton developed this land into an amusement park called Walled Garden which drew visitors from around the Midwest and beyond for decades. In 1951, Walled Garden was purchased by Kinder Morgan Pipelines Inc., which operated it until it closed down in 1997 due to pollution concerns caused by gas storage facilities onsite). The Historical Society of Western Reserve County purchasedWalled Garden from Kinder Morgan Pipelines Inc., restoring it as an open-air museum dedicated to American history with exhibits on Industry and Arts And Crafts Managers during Preindustrial Times thru current times . Tours are available free of charge every Saturday morning between 9am –5pm except holidays
