The area that now makes up Troy was originally inhabited by the Seneca people. The first white person to live in what is now Troy was Elijah Wood in 1812. In 1815, General William Linnell surveyed and laid out the towns of Troy and Xenia on land that he had purchased from the Seneca nation. Troy's history can be traced back to when it became a part of Cuyahoga County. On October 20, 1819, Augustus Kelley donated large tracts of land to the county for development purposes. The cornerstone for what would become Troy was laid on November 4th of that year by George Vandalius II, who also served as Mayor of Cleveland at that time. In 1834, Major John Creswell donated land east of downtown to form what would become Euclid Avenue. This donation helped give rise to one of Troy's most prominent businesses – The Grosse Pointe Beer Store – which has been open since 1840. During World War II, many residents relocated to neighboring Akron due to rationing bottles and cans being available only in Cleveland or Toledo. After the war ended, many residents returned home and established businesses such as Eveready Electric Manufacturing Company and Armstrong Leather Co-Op.. On July 1st, 1965 - just days after American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into an industrial complex killing all 269 passengers and crew - authorities pronounced downtown Troy unsafe for human habitation because too few exits were available within the municipality limits due to infrastructure improvements made during previous decades by then-Mayor James Lavelle *. After much deliberation among city leaders including Mayor Lavelle himself*, a committee was formed with input from business owners* convened with authority over public works/safety issues within City Limits* pursuant *to Ohio Revised Code section 2721.* That committee recommended demolishing most if not all structures inside walls confines (not allowing any exceptions)** surrounding I-271 interchange due deliveries/processing operations taking place there; instead erecting 3-4 stories tall concrete storage sheds provide interim until permanent building could be erected subject thereto *****. demolition never proceeded beyond this point however remains an issue currently facing city streetscape*****. alternative plans submitted by citizens group seeking reversal include raising number/height limit on shed(s) & reopening under new name "Green Zone"

Troy, OH is a small town in the Putnam County area of Ohio. It was founded in 1836 by General John Fenton and his family. The town was named for Trojan Horse, the symbol of ancient Greece. Troy grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its location on the American River and its access to transportation including railroads and waterways. The population peaked at around 25,000 in 1910 but declined after World War I until it reached 10,000 in 1950. In the early 21st century, Troy experienced growth again due to its proximity to Cleveland and other metropolitan areas. The population has since increased to over 20,000 residents. The history of Troy begins with General John Fenton who first settled here in 1836. He was a United States Army officer who served in Mexico City during the Mexican-American War and then returned home to found Troy on the American River near present day Eastonville, PA. The river offered good transportation links for goods needed for growing crops and stockraising along with easy access to markets south of Cleveland while also providing a shipping route for goods coming into central Ohio from Pennsylvania via the Erie Canal. Although initially a small community with only 100 residents, Troy quickly became an important stop on wagon trains traveling between eastern Pennsylvania and central Ohio before becoming an important manufacturing center as well during the mid-19th century thanks to innovative milling techniques created by local entrepreneurs such as Elias Howe (the father of electric lighting). By 1860, there were more than 300 businesses operating in Troy with 2 paper mills (one Stillwater) producing paper products such as newspapers and magazines as well as sacks of flour that were shipped downriver for local bakeries across central Ohio; all these activities helped create what is now known as "The Papers Belt" region within central Ohio which had been developing rapidly since the 1840s thanks largely to industrialization within Indiana following Civil War emancipation efforts spearheaded by Andrew Carnegie & Others! Despite this significant development within centralOhio economy – despite having achieved bona fidemopolitan status by 1870 – life remained relatively mundane until World War I when new opportunities opened up due largely to military recruitment drives among US veterans returning home from Europe! Troy, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. The population was 37,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati–Milford, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Troy was founded in 1819 by Colonel John Fenton and his troop of United States Volunteers as Fort Troy on high ground east of present-day downtown Toledo. The settlement grew slowly until 1834 when it became an incorporated village under the name North Troy. In 1836, surveyor James Gadsden named what is now downtown Toledo "Troy" after General John Fremont's brother-in-law, Colonel George Washington Troup (1781-1855). In 1837, the first brick building in town was built by Adam Myrick and Horatio Alger for $4 per square foot (0.080 m2). By 1840, there were three stores and 30 residents in Troy; however, it did not become a township until 1862 when a branch line from Cincinnati to Youngstown was completed. In 1898, during World War I veteran John Pappas enlisted in the United States Army Air Service as an aviation mechanic and flew combat missions over Europe with No 1 Squadron RAFVR/11 which he co-founded with other servicemen including Major Don Whitehouse who became president of Wright brothers company US Aviation Corporation later that year after they retired from flying military aircraft. After World War II ended peaceably within America following V-E Day ceremonies across Europe Pappas sold his controlling interest to American Aircraft Corporation which continued production but moved manufacturing facilities back to Britain where they remain today as British Aerospace plc.. The post office at 111 S Market Street opened on November 3rd 1888 under direction of Drs Samuel Janklowitz & Oscar Wertheim with mail service starting December 1st 1888 from Cincinnati via Toledo to Cleveland then Detroit delivering mail all along its route before terminating at Union Station in Cleveland on May 12th 1889! This New England styled ironclad building still stands today next door across from First National Bank! The first storey or part thereof collapsed due to ice accumulation December 6th 1907 trapping nine citizens inside!
