Trotwood is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. The first white settler in Trotwood Township was John Earle who arrived in 1814. Trotwood was incorporated as a village on December 12, 1826. A post office called Trotwood was established in 1828, and remained in operation until it closed on July 6, 1898. In 1830 by order of General Harrison Trotwood became part of the new Northwest Territory formed from parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. In 1839 Trotwood became one of two towns to be located within present day Cuyahoga County when it was added to the county from Wayne Township. The first school in what is now Trotwood Township opened in October 1830 with twenty pupils under the direction of Anna Whitlock Mueller (1802-1873). This school operated for three years before being discontinued due to financial difficulties. The first teachers were Mrs. Mary Ann Smith (1811-1899) and Miss Lydia Laughlin (baptized March 15th, 1812). In February 1840 David Swayze joined forces with Drury Lewis and others to purchase an acreage south of where Parma University now stands and began building what would become his home which he named "Swayze Place." They also built a jail/cabinet grinder which still stands today inside the house behind the garage on North Avenue west of State Route 11 South across from Parma University's campus entrance/parking lot across from Joe's Pizza restaurant north side Campus Road east side near Rheinisch Pool water tower housing their grocery store . Mrs . Swayze died intestate leaving her entire estate to her son David Jr., wife Sarah Jane Kinney & children Amos Jr., Nancy Addie Mae Slaughter & husband John Prentice Slaughter - all living then or since deceased except for widow Sarah Jane Kinney who survives retains rights over estate afterDavid Jr.'s death

Trotwood is a small town in southern Ohio, United States. The population was 2,849 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cincinnati, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Trotwood were French Canadian settlers who came there fromCanada in 1802. They built cabins on the banks of the Cuyahoga River and started a farm. In 1818, a company of American soldiers under General Andrew Jackson invaded Canada and burned down many of these settlements. As a result, many of these pioneer families moved west to America and founded new towns along the Cuyahoga River such as Allentown (now Erie), Bradford (now Wyandotte), Defiance (now Parma), Grafton (now Muskegon Heights), Holmesburg ( now Mentor ), Mayfield ( Now Milford Heights ), New Albany (Now Jenks ), Perrysburg (), Ross Township (), Sharon Township (), Sylvania Township (), and Vandalia (). In 1829, Trotwood's first school was built by teacher Ebenezer Greenidge. The town's first post office was established in 1831; it became known as Greenville until 1840 when it changed its name to Trotwood after Representative John A. Trotwood from Delaware County in Pennsylvania. In 1865, Trotwood had 1 store and 5 residences; by 1870 it had 3 stores and 10 residences with an total population of 20 people. In 1902,Trotwood's post office became known as Westlake and its population increased to 100 people by 1910 with 3 stores and 10 residences. By 1920 TrotWood had 4 stores with 150 residents but its post office closed becauseOf lack of customers or mail service due to World War I cutbacks within the military postal system).
The Trotwood area was first settled by Europeans in the late 18th century. The first European to settle in what is now Trotwood was Nicholas Wilkinson, who arrived in 1795. He and his family built a cabin on the current site of Trotwood Elementary School. In 1825, John Davenport and his family moved from Waverly, Ohio to live in what is now Trotwood. They started a small farm which they ran until around 1830 when they sold it and moved to Cincinnati. In 1830, Sidney Sayers bought land near the present-day intersection of Highways 6 and 75 in what is now Trotwood Township. He started a grocery store there which he operated until 1841 when he sold the business to J.M. Cooks for $1,000 cash. Cooks renamed it Cook's Grocery store and continued operation until 1888 when he died at age 84 years old. In 1898, Alesandro Aragon purchased land east of the current trotwoodsite along Highways 6 and 75 from Sidney Sayers for $2,000 cash. He erected a two-story wood frame house on this property which served as his home until 1926 when he sold it to Fenton Crouse for $10,000 cash. Crouse named his home "Trotwood" after his childhood home in Italy where he had been raised before moving to America at age 10 years old in 1904 with his parents and brothers (the elder Crouse also resided in Trotwood). Fenton Crouse continued to live at "TrotWOOD" until his death on October 5th, 1966 due to complications from leukemia at the age of 80 years old . His wife Esther took over management of the house upon their son Fenton's death . Today "TrotWOOD" continues as an historical landmark located within walking distance of both schools located within trotwoodsite -Trott Wood Elementary School & Trott Woods Junior/Senior Academy
