Trotwood is a small town in Steuben County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. It is the southernmost community of any size in Steuben County. The town was named for Gen. George Washington Trotwood, who also served as President of the United States from 1799 to 1801 and as governor of Ohio from 1800 to 1803. The first permanent settler in Trotwood was David Davenport on October 3, 1795. He built a cabin on the edge of what is now Trotwood Cemetery. A post office was established at Trotwood on November 10, 1802, and remained in operation until it closed on February 14, 1865. In 1830 John Haggerty founded Haggerty's Ford near present-day Trotwood Village although he had left his farm there some time earlier that year to start a new life with his family in Steubenville (now Dayton). By 1840 there were 5 farms located within a mile or so of present-day Trotwoods village core; by 1860 only 1 remained undivided into 2 parcels larger than one acre and called "Haggerty's Ford". According to local historian Melvin Treadway Jr., "the early settlers were farmers who grew corn and beans; they raised horses and cows for milk and meat." In fact, many early residents still live in or around their homes today – including several members of the current Town Council! By 1870 three-quarters of all families living within one mile (1 km) of village core were engaged in farming activities; by 1920 that figure had shrunk to only 10%. However, manytrove continue to enjoy access to quality public education available throughout much of Greater Cleveland region through nearby schools like Euclid High School & Stroudsburg Area Community College which are just minutes away from their home villages! Today’s businesses such as furniture stores (like Sears), hardware stores (like Home Depot), car dealerships (including Midas) and other retail outlets have helped Downtown Trotwood grow tremendously over the years while preserving much architectural remnant dating back more than 100 years!

Trotwood is a village in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,887 at the2010 census. It is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Trotwood" was given to the village by George Trotwood and his brother-in-law Horace Mann in 1868. George had moved from settlements near Lima to start a new business called the Trotwoods Store on State Route 12 about twelve miles east of town. He named his store after his father's home country, England. A post office called Trotwood was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1902, a railroad station was built near the center of town; it served as the terminus for the now defunct Erie Railroad before being absorbed into the Ohio Central Railroad system. In 1911, a high school named for General James Kappes opened in Trotwood; it closed in 1922 due to financial problems. A new high school known as Muskingum Valley High School opened in 1951 and remains open today. A church founded by Reverend John Whitechurch also serves as a community center and charter school; it has been located at 9th Street and Meridian Avenue since 1954.
The town of Trotwood, Ohio was founded by Loyalists in 1792. It was named for General James Wilkinson, the British general who helpedlay the American Revolution. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century, and by 1875 it had a population of 3,000. In 1901 Trotwood became a city.
