Trotwood is a small town in the southern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 3,818 at the 2010 census. Trotwood is located on the east side of the Scioto River, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Columbus and 25 miles (40 km) north of Dayton. The town was founded by English settlers in 1797. It was named for Colonel George Trotwood, who had been colonel of an American brigade that fought in the French and Indian War. Trotwood became a territory in 1802 when it was organized as part of Putnam County. In 1825, it became a city and remains so today. When Trotwood first developed as a settlements, it consisted mostly of farmers who raised corn and other crops on their land around the river. By 1830, however, there were also some brick houses and some businesses established in town. The growth of Trotwood began to take off after 1840 when construction began on what is now known as the State Capitol Building – one of only two such buildings remaining from before Ohio's statehood in 1792. This new building helped to spur economic development throughout town over time – including several stores and restaurants opening up along with schools and churches renovated or built anew around this period. In 1870–71, Trotwood annexed neighbouring townships to form a new municipality called Newton Township; this merger failed due to lack of support from both factions involved withintownspeople themselves over whether or not to continue working together under one banner (in contrast to earlier municipal amalgamations where different groups within each township banded together). Nevertheless, Newton Township continued as an entity until 1903 when it merged into Lawrence Township which itself merged into Union Township which finally merged into Adams Township on November 1, 1907 effective upon its creation from all these separate entities’ lands plus that portion lying eastwardly within Scioto County (excluding Newton township). Trotwood is a small town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Trotwood is located on the Scioto River in the northwestern part of the county. The name "Trotwood" is derived from English meaning "broad valleys." The first settler in what became Trotwood was John Tuttle who arrived in 1792. He and his family built a cabin near present-day Trotwood andnamed it Tuttle's Grove. In 1802, John Tuttle's son-in-law, Joshua Gardner moved to Trotwood andestablished a store there. That year also saw the arrival of James Mosely and his family from Warren Township, Pennsylvania with their herds of cows and pigs. By 1811, all but one house in Nuttall's trading post had been built; this building now stands on Main Street within city limits. In 1812, during the War of 1812, Major General receive orders from President James Ketchum to raze all Indian villages east of the Scioto River without warning or compensation to their occupants This order set off a fur trade war that lasted for several years In 1815 local Native American leader Tecumseh led an uprising against British forces occupying our territory In response General Anthony Wayne marched into our territory with 50000 men and destroyed most of Tecumseh's army at Fallen Timbers (now Detroit) before withdrawing back towards Cleveland . At about this time area resident Isaac Hill started namingakes named after Patriots such as George Washington (Dugway), Thomas Jefferson (Merrittstown), Benjamin Franklin (Springfield), Alexander Hamilton (Albany) etc... Among these were Hill's Run (now College Avenue), Fort Knox (later Arlington Heights), William Henry Harrison House (now Heritage Place), Revolutionary War Battlefield Schoolhouse No 6 & 7(which still stand today across Rte 40 from Springboro Village Shopping Center)), Battle Ground which still stands just north side road between Springboro Village Shopping Center & Arlington Heights Cemetery). All these make up what may be considered Trotwood’s downtown area today...Much has changed since then including population growth rate much higher than anything seen hereabouts over last 30 years!
