Trotwood is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Lima–Muncie–Wilmington, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Trotwood was James Aiken in 1802. Aiken and his family were the first white people to live in what would become Trotwood. He built a cabin on the east side of town. In 1812, John Fenton bought land northwest of town from Aiken and founded Fentonville. In 1814, Isaac Brock purchased 160 acres (60 ha) northeast of Trotwood from Fentonville for $5 per acre ($ million today). Brock ran a sawmill and grist mill here until his death in 1830. After he died, his son William took over management of both businesses and added an additional four buildings to the mill complex – making it one of the largest mills in Northwest Ohio at that time. When Erie Canal was completed through central Ohio in 1825, business as usual ceased at Brock's mill as travelers had to cross by way of Sandusky instead. Residents near Trotwood started building their own homes around this time too; many remain there today due to limited development access along the canal route several decades later! On January 1, 1861, when Ohio became a Ulysses S Grant territory following his successful bid for President on November 3rd that year (the day after Michigan Territory became a state), Trotwood became part of Tritown Township – one of twenty-four townships Grant carved out during his term as President! During World War IITrotwood served as an airfield used by military units such as Ninth Air Force Bomber Command RAF Station Wickenburg which operated out of USAAF bomber stations RAF Lakenheath and RAF Swanton Morley while based at OTU Tritown Aerodrome Naval Air Station from 1942-1945 providing fighter escorts for allied bombers flying bombing missions over Nazi Germany
In 1812, Trotwood was a small hamlet on the site of present-day Toledo, Ohio. It was named for General James Trotwood, who fought in the War of 1812. The first Post Office at Trotwood was established in 1814. By 1830, there were six houses and one store in the town. Trotwood had a schoolhouse by 1840. A post office and general store were erected here in 1846. The first railway station in Toledo was built at Trotwood in 1847. In 1870, the population ofTrotwood was 2153; it dropped to 836 in 1880 and 515 in 1900. The last postmaster left Trotwood on July 1, 1932. The townspeople developed a Towson-style shopping mall on the banks of the Muskegon River south of Toledo after World War II for residents who could not find decent retail stores near home anymore. This shopping center closed circa 1984-85 when new development began nearby that would take over much of what had been vacated by the old mall's tenants (namely Sears).
