In addition to its legislative branch activities, Trenton played an important role during both world wars as an airfield for American forces stationed in Europe and also as home to General Motors Co.'s largest research lab outside of Detroit. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture with a significant amount of trade related activity taking place between Trenton and neighboring towns along Ironto Road east of Ironto Lake.
