As this system grew popular, other towns began sending representatives to form committees charged with developing postal routes and expanding delivery service beyond their immediate boundaries In 1856, when Ohio became a state, Trenton became one of its initial cities. The original planning for the city includednr an area bounded by Jefferson Street on the north; Monroe Avenue on the east; Canal Street on the south; Willis Avenue on the west; and Third Street Extension lying just north of current State Route 22 which led into Hamilton Township
