The Toledo Scope and Telescope Museum is a museum located in the city of Toledo, Ohio that features exhibits on optics and scopes. The museum was founded in 1948 by Dr. Edwin A. Armstrong and Mrs. Alma L. Armstrong as the Oriental Sculpture Gallery of the Toledo Art Institute. The first exhibit at the museum was “A New Perspective: Photographs from an American Expedition to Tibet” which featured photographs taken by Dr. Edwin Armstrong during his expedition to Tibet in 1933-1934. In 1955, the museum moved to its current location on Clinton Street between Park Avenue and Washington Boulevard due to space constraints at the Art Institute building. The original scope of operations for the museum included display of antique telescopes, however, over time this has been supplemented by collection of modern scopes as well as telescope parts and accessories from around the world. The library located adjacent to the museum also houses a variety of optical materials including glass negatives, prints, slides, books and other items related to optics and scopes dating back to 1650 BC! Some notable individuals who have contributed significantly to optics history include Drs. Edwin Armstrong (1948-2005), James Fenton (1868-1940), Edward Ayer (1793-1879), Louis de Saint-Pierre de l’Isle et des Cités (1698-1773) . Here are five tips to help you become a successful Spotter: 1) Use a map of your target area. When sighting in with a spotting scope, make sure that you have a clear view of your target from wherever you are situated. If there's any glare or reflections from furniture or other objects nearby, they will obscure what you're seeing through your telescope's optics.15 Remember also to keep an eye on local sunrise/sunset times so that you can timed-attack targets accurately! 4) Take some learning measures before starting out by reading rifle hunting manuals or similar information prior to using your spotting scope; these will give you tips on how best to sight in while shooting game animals.16 5) Get familiar with all of the different telescopes available on the market today; there are many different types and sizes available which can accommodate different purposes such as bird watching, astrophotography, and imaging research tasks.17 After becoming comfortable using a spotting scope within specific parameters set by manufacturers (e.g., magnification), start looking for targets outdoors in areas known for good birdwatching concentrations or during periods of high solar activity (e.g., early morning).18
