Dickson named his town after General James Ketchum's Headquarters at Gadsden Landing near Mobile Alabama during the Creek War (1795-1800), since Ketchum had led an expedition against rebel Creek forces there that resulted in heavy losses for both sides. In 1836, during the regular session of Congress which followed Mexico's annexation into United States as part of President Andrew Jackson's Compromise OF Mexican Independence seven years earlier, Representative John Vanderbilt offered to provide $25,000 toward building abranch office for territorial government offices located east side Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets in Toledo; this offer was accepted and construction began soon thereafter within what would become known as Government House East annexe on September 10th 1837 with Nathan Hale acting as first director general upon William McKinley becoming president four months later In 1840s various stores started opening up throughout downtown including Clerk & Wagoner’s store which became Grand Trunk Western Railroad depot served passengers until its closure in 1954 That same year Purdey’s grocery closed down leaving only three small businesses still standing today: Allis Chalmers shoesmith shop/repair shop former Singer Sewing Machine Co., Mrs Newman’s bakery - opened 1915 When kerosene lamps went out throughout most US during prohibition Era they brought their products all over country doing well until 1935 when Prohibition ended On October 15th 1906 local developer David Gilmore purchased 3 acres just east off Third Street near present day State Fairgrounds property then subdivided it into 6 Lots giving rise to current Blocks 8-10 street grid blocks starting NE corner Block “A” goes SW corner block “B” goes due north block “C” goes due south . This gave rise to village name being changed 3 times between 1907-1966: First change came about 1908 when trustees voted not to rename because many people already had similar names such as Ironton or Springboro Village Second change happened 1923 when trustees approved new name proposed by mayor Samuel Gibbs but no one wanted it so trustees reverted back naming after original founder John Dickson Third change happened 1966 when village board decided new name should be called ParklandVillage
