The next year,Captain James Fenton erected a large blue pitchingana (a type of round barrel archeryTarget) for use by his friends and neighbors. This target was well designed and made from heavy oak logs which allowed it to be easily moved about. From this start, there were many different types of guns targets being set up around Tiffin over time including small cannon balls (1846), ironclad ships (1850), horseback riders (1851), rifles with their barrels subtracted off (1857), battleships (1863), bicycles (1900) and even an X-shaped swimming pool in 1904! In 1902, the Townships were dissolved into individual townships: "Adams", "Washington", "Tiffin". In 1907, another act changed the name of Tuscarawas County from Wayne County to Ross County because of increasing growth within that county due to coal mining operations in Pike Creek Valley (now Westmoreland County). In 1910, another act changed the name back again to Tuscarawas County because there was no longer any evidence that any other county in Michigan had given rise to such an appropriately named township as Adams or Washington.
