Many businesses closed during Prohibition but reopened afterwards because alcohol was not illegal in Ohio until 1919. In 1923, through an act of the Ohio General Assembly, Tallmadge became one of two communities within Dayton Township to get voting rights; it had been part of Myer Township since 1921. That year also saw significant development when Euclid High School opened its doors for grades 9-12; other nearby schools followed suit over time including Northwest Junior/Senior High School which opened its doors in 1951 and Muskingum Valley Jr./Sr., which did so in 1957 During World War II thousands of men from across eastern Ohio served their country within the armed forces located here including those who went into combat on Long Island leading up to Sicily/Etruria where they landed on July 10 1944 - Operation Husky - as part of Patton's Third Army Since 1996 most citizens have resided around Cedarburg which has been home to both Walnut Hills Elementary & Middle Schools as well as Stroudsburg Area Vocational Technical Institute
