Tallmadge, Ohio is a small town in Shiawassee County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Toledo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Tallmadge area started as a small settlement on the Scioto River in 1796 by John and Susannah Tallmadge. In 1803, the village of Tallmadge was founded by George Washington Carver and others on land owned by James Wilkinson. In 1814, when Delaware and Steuben counties were organized into Ohio, Tallmadge became part of Shiawassee County. In 1825, violence broke out between Indians and white settlers near present-day Greenville Township; 21 people were killed and 150 injured. The governor ordered an investigation that found no fault with either side. That same year, Samuel Morse built a mill in what is now Goodyear Township while working for his brother-in-law Ebenezer Cooke Sr.. At first it used waterpower from the Scioto River but soon began to use electricity from an early Stephenson‑built battery located just east of town on Mechanic Street. A post office called "Tallmadge" was established in 1827; it changed its name to "Shiawassee" in 1830 after becoming part of Michigan Territory under US President Andrew Johnson. In 1840, when Shiawassee County was merged into Toledo County, Tallmadge became one of its villages along with Goodyear and other nearby townships. It experienced heavy manufacturing activity during World War II as parts production for aircraft (especially Mustangs) took place at three factories: Republic Aircraft Company's Dayton plant (later Lockheed Martin), General Electric's Elkhart plant (now GE Aviation), and Beechcraft Corporation's Canton plant (now Boeing). There also was large related agriculture activities including feed R&D at Monsanto Research Laboratories adjacent to Goodyear High School; new housing developments developed around Akron State University across Route 54 from town center; several golf courses were opened within driving distance of town limits;and two hospitals—the Methodist Hospital (founded 1912) on Main Street which closed in 1984 due to financial difficulties and then Shaheen–Goodyear Hospital north of town—ened up being mainstay medical providers until they closed or moved away altogether around 2000 amid budget cuts brought about by health care reform initiatives announced that year following passage of the Affordable Care Act designed to improve access to quality healthcare throughout much OFOhio through increased regulation over insurance companies."

Tallmadge is a village in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,474 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Tallmadge was Edmund Calkins, who arrived in 1810. In 1814, John Stephenson built a gristmill and store there. A post office was established in 1816 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1819, James Wills moved to Tallmadge from Parkersburg, West Virginia with his family and started a grocery store. Wills became one of the most influential citizens of Tallmadge because he donated land to become the Village Green which still stands today. He also helped found First Congregational Church on Euclid Avenue and served as its first pastor. The Village Green remains an important stop for pedestrians on Euclid Avenue today because it once housed thetallmadge Grange which played an important role in early town development and later became home to many businesses including Donnybrook Glass Works and Toledo News Company. Another significant figure who lived in or around Tallmadge during its early days was Elisha Porterfield whose slave business operated from what is now Third Street between Euclid Avenue and Market Road until it burned down ca 1870s due to Union Army military action nearby during the Civil War (the battle known as Battle of Fair Ground). Porterfield's plantation also stood adjacent to Third Street until it too burned down within years following emancipation of slaves within Ohio by President Ulysses S Grant following passage of the Thirteenth Amendment on November 16th 1865 nullifying slavery throughout all United States states except Delaware & Maryland).
Tallmadge was founded in 1824 by George W. Tallmadge, a landowner and farmer. The town grew rapidly due to the trade of goods from nearby Akron and other cities. In 1850, Tallmadge became the county seat of Cuyahoga County. After the American Civil War, Tallmadge's population declined as many residents moved away for jobs in larger towns. However, with the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 and new transportation methods such as railroads, Tallmadge regained its prosperity. In 1927, construction began on the Veterans Memorial Bridge which connects downtown Tallmadge with miles of farmland to the north and east. The bridge was finally completed in 1936 and has been an important artery in town since then.
