In the early 1800s, Tallmadge was a small town in southeastern Ohio. The town was first settled by Europeans in the mid-1700s and had only one store when it became known as "The Town of Commerce." In 1810, John C. Frisbie built a mill on the Scioto River and began producing flour for local markets. By 1820, there were five stores in Tallmadge and over 100 people living in the community. Tallmadge's growth continued during the 19th century as goods arrived from New England via canal boats and pack trains. The population grew to 1,500 by 1830 and 2,000 by 1840. During this time, businesses such as tanneries, lumberyards, carriage factories and woolen mills were established in the community. During World War II, Tallmadge became an important manufacturing center for Allied forces due to its location on Lake Erie between Cleveland and Toledo. At this time, Tallmadge produced munitions such as tanks, planes and ships. After the war ended in 1945, many of Tallmadge's industrial facilities closed down or were converted into housing developments. Today, Tallmadge is a small town with a population of around 300 people who enjoy spending their summers outdoors fishing or swimming at nearby lakeshore resorts; playing lacrosse or football at local high school teams; dining at locally owned restaurants; or visiting historical sites like Kenyon College or The United States Capitol Building.

Tallmadge, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metropolitan area. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1814. The name comes from Tallmadge Hill, which is located in the center of town. The first settler in Tallmadge was John Chippendale. In 1828, Tallmadge became a town charter and incorporated as a village. In 1854, the United States Congress passed an act to create public schools in every township within 10 miles of Cincinnati; this act created Tallmadge Township and gave it its current name of "Tallmadge". By 1870, there were already twenty-four public schools in Tallmadge Township with students from all over Northeast Ohio attending them. In 1916, the townships were combined into one municipality under the name "Tallmadge", and since then have been served by their own government separate from that of Cleveland proper. The city of Cleveland annexed parts of neighboring municipalities during the late 19th century to form what is now known as Cuyahoga County (although some residents still call themselves "Tall madges"). This annexation did not include Fatima Township - which straddles Lake Erie between Akron and Canton - which continued to be self-governing until 1959 when it too was annexed into Cuyahoga County as part of broader efforts to compact Greater Cleveland's land area. However, because so much important economic development took place in Canton before 1959 – including Rafto Rubber Company – many residents continue to refer to themselves simply as "talls" or "cantonites". So even though they are technically part of Cuyahoga County (and receive municipal services), most people living around tall madges consider themselves more locally affiliated than either local officials or county taxpayers do. This lingering sense that each tall madGE retains some degree autonomy has given rise both to unique traditions (e.g., holding annual fairs on October 15) and also occasional friction with other municipalities due largely to differences over issues like zoning laws or street names (e.g., Fort Wayne Street). Tallmadge, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,023 at the 2010 census. Tallmadge was founded by settlers in 1814 and named for General James Wilkinson Tallmadge. The town became a city in 1907 and has since grown to become one of the most populous municipalities in Cuyahoga County. It is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human settlement in what is now Tallmadge Township was made on June 12, 1814 when three men from Kentucky arrived on horseback to purchase land around present-day West Side Road and Cedar Street. They were met by William Hoadley, who had come out from Cincinnati as part of a group led by Colonel John Dennison to purchase land east of the Scioto River from the Shawnees. The men named their new settlement "Tallmadge". In 1815, General James Wilkinson arrived with his forces from Fort Wayne and laid out a village on the banks of the Scioto River east of present-day West Side Road. He called it "Wilkinsonstown" after himself or Major-General Wilkinson (1758–1827). When Wilkinson's forces expelled the Indian occupants of this area during Turtle Bayou Expedition in 1816, they again renamed their village "Tallmadge". In 1830, following creation of Muskingum County, Tallmadge became part of that county; however, it reverted back to Cuyahoga County upon its merger into Cleveland in 1898. During much of its early history Tallmadge struggled economically because there were no marketable resources within its boundaries such as coal or oil reserves available today. However over time it has developed into one of Ohio's largest and most prosperous cities due to its location along major transportation corridors like I‑680 and I‑271 which make it easily accessible both domestically and internationally while also having abundant job opportunities outside the city limits including many large companies located throughout Northeast Ohio such as PepsiCo., Ford Motor Co., AmocoPhillips Petroleum Company Estates Inc., Carrier Corporation etc.; all providing significant economic stability for residents over extended periods albeit sometimes resulting in some increased traffic congestion on some residential streets downtown during peak hours especially during holiday season when businesses close up shop for fear vandals may enter their properties looking for artifacts left behind or stolen items taken from other businesses nearby! The original buildings that remain today are built between 1815 and 1830 primarily around present-day Cedar Street/West Side Road intersection - these include: First Presbyterian Church (now an iconic structure on Euclid Avenue), George Washington School (later known as Stroudsburg Elementary), Masonic Lodge No 2 (now used as apartments),and two stores/a post office building built c1830 across East Walnut Street between Cedar & Walnut Streets - these included: Peebles Hardware Store & Post Office Building As tallmades grew more Numerous numerous businesses opened located Downtown including: Wabash Mercantile store(opened 1861) – Federated Furniture store(opened 1922) – Jiffy Lube Service station(opened 1965) – Akron Rubber company(opened 1901) – Food Lion grocery store(open 1975) – Sears Roebuck department store(closed 1987) – Two movie theatres viz.: Regal Theatre & Majestic Theatre opened 1916 closed 1984 respectively but still standing tall indicate how popular movie attendance once was hereabouts Today’s vibrant downtown community owes much to several decades long efforts by City Councilmember Matt Chandler spearheaded with input from various elected officials including Mayor Frank Jackson who championed development policies initial enacted under then Chief Operating Officer/Mayor Michael Bloomberg before he left office suddenly just prior to Christmas 2011; former Deputy Mayor Carmen Segovia; current Public Works Director Curtis Winters; Zoning Administrator Bill Burden; Community Development Coordinator Sandy Siegel etc.; all working together collaboratively towards common goal which includes keeping our city cleanliness high priority so families can enjoy quality family time here without fear thereof being impacted thereby creating “A Better Place” for everyone regardless race color gender identity etc.; hereby granting permission tothose individuals mentioned hereinaboveto publicly display photograph representing City Hall inside Municipal Complex Lobby courtesy your good self if you choose so!
