Tallmadge is a small town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern edge of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is part of the Dayton–Middletown–Daytona Beach CDP. The land that would become Tallmadge was first settled by Europeans in 1795 as part of the colony of Danville.[1] In 1815, it became part of the new state of Ohio and incorporated as a village. The first post office in Tallmadge was opened in 1826. In 1847, parts of what are now Dayton and Middletown were added to Tallmadge Village; these towns were named for General David Blackthorne (1778-1846), who served as governor of Ohio from 1819 to 1830 and who donated land for their establishment. In 1870, when Toledo was founded as the second city in Ohio, Tallmadge became an important transportation center because it had a road leading east to Toledo and west to Akron. However, during prohibition times (1920-1933), alcohol sales were forbidden in all but one store on Main Street. A series of Prohibition raids against bars throughout central Ohio led to arrests and prison sentences for many people involved in business as usual. As a result, businesses closed or moved away from Main Street during prohibition years; however, they reopened after repeal. After prohibition ended, tourism began to grow in popularity among residents because it allowed them access to both OHIO State Fairgrounds locations across downtown Dayton and points south including Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine district where tall buildings such as The Duwamish & Ephrata Public House can be seen from Interstate 75/State Route 9

Tallmadge, Ohio is a small town located in the state of Ohio. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. Tallmadge was founded in 1825 and named for Major General James Tallmadge. It was laid out as an agricultural village by Colonel John Dennison in 1827. Tallmadge's first school opened in 1828 and it served students from rural areas around the town. In 1840, the first store opened in town and soon began to serve residents of neighboring towns as well. By 1850, Tallmadge had a post office and several churches. In 1860, a railroad was built through Tallmadge and it quickly became a center of trade and industry. The town experienced rapid growth during the late 19th century and early 20th century thanks to its position as one of the leading commercial centers in eastern Ohio. During World War II, Tallmadge played an important role in munitions production due to its location on two major arms plants operated by Westinghouse Electric Company. The plant produced nuclear weapons components until 1969. Afterward, the town became known for its annual corn festival which is now one of the largest events held in central Ohio each year because of its popularity among tourists and locals alike.
Tallmadge was founded in 1792 by George Washington and James Robertson. The village was named for General Tallmadge, who had led the American forces against the British in the Battle of Fallen Timbers. The first post office opened in 1807. In 1815, a school was built and became known as "The Old School" after it burned down in 1817. In 1821, a gristmill complex was constructed and it continued to be used until 1954. A community hall (now called the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library) and a Methodist church were also built during this time. The village experienced some growth in population over the years but stopped growing after World War II because of economic reasons. It has since resumed growth through residential development, commerce, arts/entertainment, and education interests.
