Tallmadge, Ohio is a town in Greene County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,633 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what would become Tallmadge Township was James Cranch in 1810. A post office called "Tallmadge" was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. In 1834, the township formed from parts of Highland Township. In 1830 John Haggerty platted what would become Tallmadge Village on a tract of land which he had purchased from Nicholas Coles Jr. For $5 per acre (0·50 ha), Haggerty offered to sell his land for one year renewable by him or his successors at $1 per acre (0·30 ha). The village grew rapidly due to demand; by 1840 it had 10 houses and 30 acres (12·8 km²) of land leased out for agriculture or manufacturing purposes. By 1849 the village had acquired an sawmill and two stores. In 1850 local businessman Gideon Harding built a grist mill on the banks of the Mahoning River near present-day Middleburg Heights; this mill became known as Harding's Mill after Mr. Harding's death in 1865. In 1853 Willard Silliman bought land east of present-day Tallmadge Village from Hanson & Sons for $2 per acre (0·06 ha). Silliman began damming the Mahoning River so that he could generate power for his steamboat operations; this resulted intalldamswithanareaof . During World War II, when production at Harding's Mill stopped because of wartime bombings, Silliman donated his mill building to creatingtheOhio State University College of Engineering and Applied Science – now known as Case Western Reserve University – which then moved into it until 1984 when it vacated completely due to fire damage caused by students who were experimenting with electronic equipment inside the old mill building during an engineering class project! A post office called "Tallmadge" was established at Tallmadge Village on December 12, 1861, and lasted until February 15, 1862 because Wm Brownell served as its first postmaster When President Abraham Lincoln visited Tally Lake Valley October 11-12 1863 while inspected military construction being done by Ulysses S Grant near Fort Sumter he designated that portion lying southwest of Fort Washington as part of Union Territory No. 5 within Confederate Territory No 3 This area included much later Addison Township along with almost all eastern territory taken up by Union forces during THAT WAR including most notably Stark County where much laterhouseand churchwerebuiltat Westville(nowSouthernWestvillage)justoutsideofthecurrenttownofTallahassee OH On December 12th 1861 US Congressman William Ladd delivered remarks before a joint session Congress concerning western lands taken up during THE Civil War including western Stark County which lies today just outside OF Tampa Florida

Tallmadge, Ohio was originally founded in 1792 as a small village on the Scioto River. The community rapidly grew due to its natural resources and its location between the Great Lakes and Ohio River. In 1814, Tallmadge became an incorporated town under the name of Athens. By 1880, Athens had become one of the largest towns in Ohio with a population of over 10,000. The city's growth continued through the years and by 1920 it had reached 30,000 people. During World War II, Tallmadge was home to two naval air stations: NAS Pensacola (later NAS Cleveland) and NAS Youngstown-Warren-Boardman (now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base). After 1945, Tallmadge experienced rapid growth as a result of new industry such as manufacturing and information technology. In recent years, however, there has been a trend towards decline as many companies have left or moved out of town.
