Tallmadge is a town in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tallmadge is located on the Scioto River and has a humid subtropical climate with average monthly temperatures ranging from 34 °F to 47 °F (1 °C to 13 °C). The first settlers in what would become Tallmadge were farmers who arrived around 1800. They raised corn, beans, peas and other crops and hunted hogs and deer. In 1829, a group of men from Delaware County founded the Village of Buffalo Township in what would become Tallmadge. In 1836, another group of men from Delaware County founded the Village of Westlake within the limits of current-day Tallmadge. In 1837, John Fenton erected a log cabin near where he now stands as the first settler in present-day Tallmadge. By 1840, there were about thirty homes in present-day Tallmadge and two churches: one Congregationalist and one Baptist. The village plat was filed on November 5th that year by Commissioners Wm Hickey and James Ladd Jr.. The village had a meeting on December 3rd to select a site for its first schoolhouse which was built on land donated by Mrs Elisha Purdy (baptized 1796) The trustees chose an area east of US Route 22 between State Road 20 S (now SR 520) and SR 10 W as their new location for school purposes due to its proximity to religious services offered at both churches nearby. A second school building was also constructed soon thereafter along State Road 24/SR 10W just north of today's intersection ofState Road 252nd Street/SR 254th Avenue NW . . . This second school stood until 1906 when it burned down due to an accidental fire having been started by someone using a lighted cigarillo while working inside the building Bosworth School continued operating until 1909 after being converted into an home economics center High School opened for students grades 9-12 following annexation by Bucyrus High School in 1907 becoming Bucyrus Middle School before finally closing during World War II because it no longer met BUcyrus standards For many years after Haupts Theater closed as well all efforts failed to gain protection or property ownership making it possible for either side To this day there remains evidence remaining above ground Some windows still stand testamenting To how long ago these events happened

At this point, African Americans began to arrive in large numbers and their presence led to tensions between white residents and black tenants; however, these disputes quickly subsided as both groups formed close social relationships with each other. In 1968, Tallmadge became part of the newly created city of Dayton after being annexed by that citys predecessor, Uniontown Township (now Findlay Township). Since then, much progress has been made within the community; such as construction of new schools and commercial development around downtown Tallmadge nightlife continues to grow while support services are provided for local businessesfolk have become more educated and certain economic opportunities have arisen throughout society due to increased technologyavailability on-line gambling has also sprung up largely due to changes brought on by recessionary timesand satellite televisionhas had an impact on Atlantan tourism
The town of Tallmadge, Ohio was founded in 1792 by Major John Tallmadge. The population of the town increased to over 200 residents by 1815 and it became a village in 1828. The town was renamed Tallmadge in 1868 after General George Marshall, who played a significant role during the American Civil War. In 1951, the town became part of the newly created Mentor-Linton Township.
