Sylvania, Ohio is a small town in the Miami Valley region of central Ohio. The population was 12,890 at the 2010 census. Sylvania is adjacent to Dearborn Heights and Bethel Park. The village was founded in 1827 as a result of land purchases by General James Wilkinson from the Wyandots. The first post office opened in 1830. In 1837, Sylvania became the capital of Butler County. It lost its capital status in 1865 when Monongalia County was organized. In 1903, Sylvania became a city and retains that distinction today. Sylvania has two public schools: John Hargrave Elementary School and Hi-Tech High School which are both rated “academically excellent” by the Hamilton Association of Governments (HAG). Additionally, there is one private school: Pritchett Intermediate School which offers grades Pre K-5th grade along with some middle/high school classes as well as college prep classes for sixth through eighth grade students during summer term time. There are also three churches located within or near Sylvania; First Congregational Church – now known as First United Methodist Church - moved from its original location on State Route 5 west of town to what is now West Side Baptist Church in 1902; Second Presbyterian Church – now called Our Lady Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Parish - moved from its original location on State Route 9 north of town to what is now North Side BaptistChurch after being destroyed by fire in 1907; and Third Adventist church – still active but located around back on Main Street east of town next to Pritchett Intermediate School - moved from its original home on Main Street south side into new building built directly opposite high school before it burned down in 1951

Sylvania was a small town in Ohio until the late 1800s. It developed around a sawmill on the Scioto River and became known for its quality woods. The mill continued to operate until 1892, when it was destroyed by fire. Sylvania's economy changed around this time, as mills closed and farmers took up land near the river. Today, much of Sylvania is within walking distance of downtown or the University of Dayton. The first settlers in Sylvania were workers at the nearby Scioto Mills. In 1790, they built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. From here, they started harvesting lumber from the trees along the Scioto River. They named their community after Sylvanus Peebles, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the Continental Congress from Pennsylvania who fought against British forces during that war. Sylvania experienced some economic challenges throughout its early years. The sawmill wasn't very profitable and closed in 1892; however, other businesses began to sprout up in response tosylvanian's new name and natural resources: a post office was established in 1893, a grocery store opened in 1895, and various industrial enterprises came online starting around 1900-01 including breweries (one still operates) and brickyards (now part of A&M University). The population of Sylvania slowly grew through word-of-mouth communication among locals and migrants streaming into Ohio during prohibition era; by 1910 there were over 1,500 residents living in town proper while 2 dozen farms dotted its periphery. Although many people left during World War II due to shortages of foodstuffs available locally – especially coal – Sylvania bounced back quickly with new housing developments such as Aspinwall Place and Ridgefield Drive before officially disappearing completely following federal troops' departure from Toledo during 1945–46 period which ended all manufacturing activity within town limits leading to dwindling populations once again only marginally surpassing pre-war levels by 1970 census date but remaining significantly lower than today’s numbers which exceed 2000 both inside/outside municipal boundaries Today there are few physical remnants remaining from old town days such as streets names oreven certain business locations although oral histories continue to be passed down about events that transpired long ago like logging drive & later mill site visits
Sylvania, Ohio is located in the southeastern corner of the United States. The community was platted in 1836 and named for Sylvanus P. Morrill, an American politician who served as the first governor of Ohio. It became a town in 1907 and has since grown to include over 1,000 residents.
