By 1840, over 100 small businesses operated out of southwesternLucas County along Canal Valley Road including many that would remain influential into the 20th century such as J H Bowman & Sons Coal Co., Wm C Gano's Meat Market, Fidelity Mercantile Co., United States Steel Corp., Welland Railroad Company (later Budd), Peoples Gaslight Lighthouse Company and others; all before they were incorporated into municipalities or counties appellations have since been bestowed upon these early pioneer families: Grangeville (), Westlake Village (), Beavercreek () etc.). From this early days until annexation by Cleveland in 1902 much progress was made within this largely agricultural area - chiefly through transportation improvements which allowed goods to be shipped directly from factories to markets throughout central Ohio without having to go through Cincinnati or Dayton; one result being an industry-generated wealth which continues unabated to this day(!). It should be noted that even after becoming part of Cleveland proper - with its own government - continuing Progressivism was still alive and well within most aspects both business and social institutions until recent times culminating with incorporation into new organizations such as "The First National Bank" in 1946; despite rapidly changing trends! On July 12, 1851 less than two weeks after John Fenton platted his land grants called “The Peninsula” here he sold 640 acres (2 km²) comprising present-day downtowns including College Hill () and buildings on Main Street eastward thence up State Route 521 (now Fifth Avenue), past present day Clinton Ave., past present day Euclid Ave., across Mill Creek onto lot No 9 westward thence south on lot No 10 eastward... This deed created what today constitutes Downtown Toledo Township adjacent to today's Park View Cemetery boundaries

By 1865, Symphonia had 150 residents and 30 businesses. In 1892, Symphonia became the capital of Ohio after Columbus was chosen as the state's new capital. The city continued to grow throughout the 20th century, reaching its peak in 1960 with a population of over 300,000 people. However, by 2000 symphonia had shrunk to just over 25,000 people and is now an almost all-time low of 14,500 people.
